To those who own a Pirogue

Reply
I understand that your pirogues are fun to paddle,And they let you see some of marsh. But,If you and the rest of the people who own them paddle all morning beating and banging paddles on side of pirogue making all kinds of noise for half the morning trying to get to a spot. There is a good chance they won't be no ducks by shooting hours!!

It sucks that these people ruin it for everyone else!!There would be plenty of ducks all week and then 5-6 pirogues show up Saturday morning at 2 a.m. and paddle, push, drag, and make noise until about 5 a.m. and run all the ducks out!!!

Some of the areas were great when we were younger and all ran our old mudmotors will never be again because of these people!!

END RANT/BAN PIROGUES AND PADDLES/Get a job and purchase a Surface Drive!!!
The Duck Commander even uses one!!!

When I was younger, there were no surface drives... We all used Pirouges and push polled them. We killed alot of ducks, alot... Then along came all the surface drives, boat blinds, and those who hunt where they see ducks. Even in the evening nesting areas. Soon there were no ducks and I bought a tree stand.

By the way I am only 31 so it wasn't that long ago that surface drives were introduced. Don't know how big of a paddle those guys were using, but my neighbors surface drive is a whole lot louder. Just my two cents, now I think I'll go for a spin in the ole cypress pirouge!

I had to laugh when I read this one

Gotcha, you would have to read the report that everyone has responding too to understand his comment

That's some funny stuff right there!

Yea, I remember when we had to throw rocks at ducks and now all of those people shooting shotguns all day just scare the ducks away...etc..

Ha!

We had ducks long ago,and we started seeing less birds long before the arrival of surface drives. The numbers do not lie, blam who you want but the flyway has changed and not in our favor.

Other states realized long before the great banana republic of La. did that there was big bucks in ducks so they tailered their management areas to hold birds. Like I said the proof is in the numbers,go look at how many birds other states in the central and Ms flyway killed 20 years ago and look now.

I own a surface drive and piros.I own and lease land, the only way to get to my land is with a surface drive. Once there I put my stuff out and park the boat and paddle back. If I could run an outboard over 200 yards of mud to get to my land in Dec and Jan I would because they are much cheaper than a mud motor.

I know I should have posted this on the other rant thread.

You aint lying Jimmy. What about those guys trudgin' through the marsh/swamp with squelching hip boots right at flying time. I already shut my surface drive off 45 minutes ago and now at shooting time I got a fartin bear scaring all my ducks away. Just ridiculous. Ban pirouges and wading walkers! Buy a surface drive, set up early, and shoot some birds!

Thats a good one Jimmyw. Its funny, but a very true and different piont of view!

The post had nothing to do with getting to the blind in the morning.

The post was about being logical about scouting throughout the ponds both before and I guess during the season.

I already said I've hunted with a go-devil for years, and I have killed plenty of ducks. But when 12 people run through the ponds throughout the day, of course the ducks aren't going to stay there.

Where is the argument against that? No one that posts here has one. So that's fine, let's ruin it for everyone.

a mudboat , longtail , surface drive, pirogue, canoe, kayak wader with hip boots all scare ducks !!! just like walking with a flashlight , breaking sticks and talking and coughing scares turkeys and 4 wheelers etc scare deer--------U GOTTA USE YOUR HEAD FOR SOMETHING BESIDES GROWING HAIR AND A HAT RACK PEOPLE !!!-BUT THIS IS A FUNNY COMEBACK TO THE ANTI SURFACE DRIVE RANT FROM A FEW DAYS AGO

So jimmy, your answer to why louisiana holds less ducks is that noisy pirogues scare them away? That has to be one of the most asinine thoughts historicly allowed on this forum. For your own sake, please rethink what you are suggesting.

We live in a state where we have squandered out natural resources......Oil or the money rec'd from oil royalties and our wildlife resources. Mississippi has lots of public duck and dove hunting opportunites because the fund their state departments. We hire Bubba who used to overbag because we only want to pay $8/hr. Well we get what we pay for. At least we have entertaining people.... Senators that are on the DC madam's list and Governors and parish presidents who are in Federal prison. Until we fund our schools like our State vehicles guess what the hunting will suck and so will everything else. That is precisely why I am leasing a rice field in the MS Delta this year. So I don't have to deal with the noisy pirogues or whatever people have to deal with here.

Buddy you need to come up with some better excuses why you can't shoot ducks. I've hunted and fished all my life out a pirouge and didn't have any problems getting my limits or pissing people off. About the getting a job part is a testy comment I am 19 with a job and know enough about hunting to know a pirouge is the quietest way to get into places your high dollar duck commander series boat can't get to. Money isn't going to make you a better hunter.

so does this mean i have to get rid of the aluminum pirouge, aluminum paddle, the aluminum beedon and the aluminum decoys i have. Lol.

Geez...some of you people cant take a joke can you...almost like u may have a guilty conscious. Come on people laugh a little.

im sorry jimmy w but i have to disagree with both you and duck fan. pirouges and mud motors both make too much noise from now on we should just swim from the launch. i mean hell the SEALS do it and you dont even hear them coming till its too late.

Man i love to duck hunt but i dont understand how grown men can argue over a bird thats ridiculous.

yeah duckhunter777, unfortunately this site has becoming a little girls bickering fest. The magazine is awesome and the moderators do their best but unfortunately it seems that the people on here are more interested in bickering than then outdoors!

god forbid the time when ya'll start on the pumpguns are louder to operate than the auto's .. don't guns in general scare the ducks too ? ? :)

Archery duck huntin',,, see it coming already... with teathered arrows so's the guy in the mudboat 5o yards away from you don't git whacked with a missed arrow shot.

cheers. RB

Hey Jimmy,
Can't agree w/ ya more! Everyone needs to get rid of them pirogues and get them an airboat with a big honkin' v8; of course no mufflers. Love that rumbling sound early in the morn spreading out over the marshes. Mount some big woofers on the top next to the lights and play rap music at full force while ya driving around checking out where the ducks might be. Go thumpin' and a rumblin' along the coast! You might even become the good samaritan when ya pull out a few of those stuck surface drives in the mud when the tide goes out! Luv your thread! LOL

Well fellas there will never be an agreement nor a median between surface drive owners and those that don't. I've hunted this state a very long time and will continue to hunt it. You've got to move these days to kill um. They don't rain in every hole like they used to on the 50s-60's . The 'old days ' are gone and there's no turning back. With that being said It's time to move on. Ducks won't hold in an area that is constantly being run by boat wether pushed, paddled or mororized. Period. I enjoyed the sarcastic approach of the thread. funny twist on the subject. Just enjoy what we've still got, and hope that our children and grandchildren will even know what it is like to experience what we have.

I hunt public and private land and i would put money that people paddling do more damage on the ducks. Its funny that the only time i don’t see ducks is when im on public land. yea yea more pressure but at the end of the season im one of 6 people out there most of the time and still no ducks. i Believe the people who complain about Motors are the people who just cant afford them. i plan on hunting ducks till i die and there is no may im gonna get my old wrinkly A## in a pirogue. and come on people the limit is 6 how many ducks do u need to see to get your limit! I get my limit just about every hunt in Lafitte and we all know thats not the best place to hunt! so if u can shoot all u need to see is 6 ducks not millions. Also is it all about Killing ducks or being out there?
Reply
I mean really you can only kill six ducks. If five pairs come in and you see orange feet you really should have your limit very easy. Heck if four pairs want to land you should have your six ducks. Thats just my opinion.

All the cryin bout surface drives now pirogues there's ab easy solution...........Buy some land or get a lease. If you hunt public land it's going to happen..........We were hunting lake beouf this weekend at around 6:00 noticed lights coming towards us so I flashed my light he kept coming then ran smack thru our decoys..........Well at 6:10 my 10 year shot his first teal
