Freshwater City

I am thinking about making a trip out of Freshwater City to try for some snapper, but I have never been there. I know where the landing is, but my question is, how far out are the closest platforms that have decent water to fish? I have about a 50 mile range on my boat, and from Cypremort Point, it is 20 miles just to get out of the pass, then another 40 or so to good water. Any comments on Freshwater City, good or bad, would be appreciated.

I was out at Vermillion 164 today. The water was nice and blue. This platform is about 45 out of freshwater city. The blue water looked to start around 30 or so miles out. good luck.

FW City is about as close a launch to the GOM, as you're going to drive to from the Lafayette area. About a one half mile boat ride and you're at the beach. Bring some extra 5 gallon cans just in case you want to explore. BTW- the last 10-12 miles of road is washboard, very dusty, gravel road. It'll make you think twice the next time. They've been talking about paving the last stretch of road for the last 20 years.

Thanks for the info. Is anyone interested in suggesting a few block numbers to try within 50 miles of Freshwater City?

Most folks head SW. You could hit the Rigs @ Vr 119 -->123, and then proceed in same heading to the area Papp-p was talking about. Make sure you have the boat and experience to handle 5-10 ft. seas should the worse happen.

Hey Papa-P, when you went out to Verm 164, did you happen to notice if many of the structures were missing? I have a map (about 10 yrs. old) showing 18 platforms in the 102, 119, 124 areas. JR--have you fished these blocks since the storm? Since Rita went right through this area, I think it would be a good idea to try to verify that the platforms are still standing before I go 40 miles out there! Thanks

Were you able to get out there and give them a try? We decided at the last minute to make a run out there. We launched out of rollover and fished Vermillion and east Cam. two of us caught our limit of snapper and two nice ling. Three of the snapper went over 10 lbs. The Ling were every where. We would see two or three of them at every stop. Most of them being border line leagal though.

How far out in the East Cameron Block did you go? I ran out 30 miles and was only able to catch 2 nice snapper and 2 ling. We kept getting hammered by large redfish. Any comment would be appreciated and congrats on your recent trip.

I couldn't get enough guys together to make a trip to the rigs, waited till the last minute I guess. Took my dad and sister to Marsh Island instead and scratched on reds. I am planning a trip for Memorial Day...that should be enough time for the guys to get off of work. Thanks for the posts.

The furthest we went was probably ~45 miles. we were fishing in 60 to 70 feet of water.

If you put in at freshwater city you better have an onboard washdown. That road will cake dust all over your boat so thick it will add 100lbs to the dry weight. I'd say put in at rollover or I think that there is one called Acadiana Marina before the big turn to pecan island.
