I'm an US Armed Forces Service Member that recently transferred here to New Orleans, LA. I'm trying to find some known Public Land for deer hunting. I'm also willing to help an owner of a Private Land with all the required maintenance of the land is I also get the opportunity to hunt on the land. Like me, there is other Service Member that like all of you share the same passion of hunting. Please, if there is anybody interested on my help, or know somebody that might be interested, please replay here or call me at 904-866-6096. Thank you very much, and have a great NAVY day/evening.

public places.
First off, I'd like to say welcome to the state distant cousin...(I'm enlisted in the Marine Corps). Some public places around New Orleans good for deer is Maurepas WMA, which is very close, but its big and you can get lost or stuck easily in a boat, but if on foot, walk the ridges along the bayous, high land is a must. Other places can be found on wlf.louisiana.gov. search for WMAs. Oh and be sure and read up on all the rules of the WMA as on certain days, you can only bring a firearm.

Maybe look at Big Branch
I retired from the Marine Corps 4 years ago and also hunt public land on the North Shore. The Pearl River WMA and the Bogue Chitto NWR have some deer, but it's tough hunting and having a boat helps a bunch. Big Branch refuge in Lacombe would be a good place to look into also. No boat needed for that one. It's bow only and pretty big. A ton of hogs and a good number of deer too. After retiring, I opened up Louisiana Outdoors in Pearl River. Come by and I'll tell you what I can about the area.

hey man
I had to sell my flat boat this summer, but I'll take you to Maurepas. Do you have a boat? If not, I can bring you along with some friends, or hunt the East side where you can just walk in. Email me via this site.

1st Try - No Joy !!!!!
I went hunting in Area 14 on base today, but no joy. I only encountered a lil' buck and a couple of coyotes. Will try again tomorrow, but once again, let me know if those offers still on the table, if you got some for me, or if you need a hunting partner for the weekend. God Bless you all ......

Lake Ramsey WMA
Thank You, enough said about that.

I live close by and hunted the Lake Ramsey WMA for the past couple years. Saw deer about every 5-6 hunts and did kill one doe and one buck every year. No monsters, but do have one on the wall. I would like to mention that I have seen several really nice, no questions asked, mountable bucks.. However; this is bow only and they were to far.

I have since moved on to a club near by due to my busy schedule. But if you have the time to pack a stand and sit for a while, well...., meat in the freezer. Lets just say, if I had the time i'd be there. Email me and I'll give you a couple hot spots.

Thanks Marine...

Well look what I found .....
After reviewing the helpful comments of very generous people in LA, I decided to go and take a look at my trail cam. Well this is what I found, a nice 8 point walking in the woods of NAS JRB New Orleans ...... Even when the timeframe wasn't good enough for a hunt, I'll keep looking fwd for an encounter with this buck.

Re: Help Needed
Can we still hunt on NAS JRB BELLE Chasse? I found both a tree stand and the shed of a decent 8 point today in the woods on base and got real optimistic! who do I call? How do I register?

I found the answer out today. Go to base environmental. They're located in the public works building 552. They gave me all kinds of info.

Re: Help Needed
I don't sell hunts in that area, but go to bookyourhunt.com and you might find a place thats all baited up limiting the amount of time you spend in the woods before you shoot a buck. It all about that time/ vs. money dilemma. http://www.kentuckyhuntingoutfitters.com
