Has anyone used sweet feed for deer instead of corn, bran etc...? What about using it in a feeder?

Sweet Feed
I tried it a few years back. The coons & opossums loved it! I don't recall the deer ever touching it.

We'll see.
I 'googled' sweet feed for deer. There was a lot of good feedback, but I am looking for people around here that have tried it. I'll see tomorrow. I put out 100lbs. I will be taking my son this weekend for the special youth hunt. Trying what I can to help get the deer to us.

Mu uncle tried some last year in St. Helena in an area that holds good numbers of deer. They never touched it he said.He dumped some in sight of his place, said deer would eat grass all around the pile and smelled the stuff, but never ate any.

I put out a sweet feed block on a little piece of property that has a few deer. They did not touch it untill very late in the season. (last week of gun season)

This year
I have been putting some out this year with corn and rice bran. I have been putting it in piles next to each other in front of my game camera. They are eating it along with the other stuff at about the same rate. So far mostly deer pics suprisingly few raccoons, did have a few dogs come by and eat on it.

I tried sweet feed a couple of time with some luck, but for the past 3 yrs I use corn early and rice bran once it gets cold. The guy at the feed store let me in on one of his grandpa's old secrets and it works believe it or not. Get you a spray bottle and put grape or cherry Kool-Aid in it, spray the corn down with it real good, you will see good positive results, and on the Rice Bran just pour the powder on it. I even just put the powder on the ground next to my salt blocks, it really is amazing how much they love this stuff LOL. The proof is on camera.

Interesting feedback
I guess some deer have different taste buds or cravings than others,,,,,,,,,, I have put out two bags of the powdered deercane,,, no action yet. Others tell me their spots are very active. go figger! guess the time of year may make a difference too.

Well of the two places I put it they hammered one. The second place near my corn feeder was not touched but they mowed down my rice bran that I also put out on the same day. Could be two different animals. I haven't bought a trail cam since my one crapped out last year. The place I buy my rice bran from has flavored rice bran (Apple, Persimmon and mixed berry). It's about $7.50 per 25lbs. Debating on whether to try that. We'll see.
