I have been hunting hard the last week with very little to no movement at all. I haven't even been getting hardly any pics either, just don't get what happened to all the deer! Has anyone around this area been seeing deer or any signs that there about to rutting? I hunt off of Hwy. 449 north of Hwy.16

I hunt near NFHC also, We have ALOT of buck sign, scrapes and rubs everywhere. This may be due to the fact that I rarley hunt the area anymore. But Iv pretty much come to the conclusion that areas not even worth hunting. Iv gone on a streak of 3 years with not 1 daytime picture! not one! and thats with 3 trail cams out. I've also gone on a streak of dec 13- feb 8(i think) without any deer on cam at all! But Hogs have moved in pretty thick. I really think the poaching and poor management is to blame. Iv seen a few 30-40lb yearlins on back of bikes on the side of our road, and more spikes taken than I can count. And the democrats that live around our land shoot deer summer and winter all in the same so that probably dont help either.

deer
Coming in late 12/20/10 and saw a herd of deer on the SE area of I-55 and Hwy 16 in Amite. Also saw a herd of deer on the SE area of Oneal Lane and I-12 in Baton ROuge on the same night. I think the full moon along with the lunar eclipse had something to do with all of the deer out during the middle of the night. I have seen more deer out this year than ever, but most are at night while driving with a few during the day.

St. Heleana hunting
Same here. We hunt in Greensburg. we've seen very little movement during the day (does and small bucks). The few big bucks on film are ALWAYS at night. In my opinion the quality of hunting has declined in this area.

Deer movement
I hunt in the extreme southwest portion of St. Helena and have seen a good bit a deer movement in the past week. Many does and my father in law killed a nice 8 point 185Lbs and I killed a nice 6 point 180Lbs last week. This week with the moon most of the action has been at night based on the trail cams but the deer are getting started rutting where I am so it should get better for the next week, I would say Sunday-Tuesday would be prime time for some good action.

Rough spot
I was in that club about 7 years ago, seems like some things never change. A couple of issues there is that the property doesn't hold much water, especially when it's this dry. Then I last heard they were trying for 10 point or better, they don't have trophy deer there, and everyone around is doing 6 or better. Then you have the locals that take any and everything, any time of the year.
I hunted that club for one year and went across the highway for 6 years and seen plenty more. One thing I learned about hunting that area is to follow the moon. Full moon, hit the woods late.
Just hang in there and it will pay off.

Deer Movement
Ok. So Monday I am in the stand. Big buck chasing doe in a cutover. Could not get a shot. Two weeks before day photos of a big 8, small 8, bb and spikes during the day from about 8:30 on. I hunt off of Gilead Road. Hope that helps!.

It has been a rough year specially when it came time to plant our winter plots it didn't rain for a month in a half. We have been feeling it ever since. Had a couple of nice deer on camera but all of them at night. We shoot 7 points or better now. What road are on hunting on now and how much is your membership a year?
