White turkey?

Reply
I have been getting alot of turkey pic's off my game cam's but wasn't expecting to see wild white turkeys. Are these rare? I have heard of them on farms and such but i've never seen a wild one...till now.

I saw 2 white ones on two different days while deer hunting at Sherburne last year.

I don't think they are very common. But, they must not be too rare either. I've been watching one on our lease in Alabama all Deer season. I see her almost every weekend. They are pretty birds though.

We have had two on our place in MS for the past few years now. We get them on camera all the time but I am the only one to see them in person. I always wondered how common they are too.

We used to have one on a place we hunted in Kentwood. I did some research a few years ago and if I remember correctly, they are called 'silver' turkey. It is not any form of albino trait, hence the various colors other than white. Beautiful bird. Would make an incredible mount if you can find one with a beard.

Years back we had about 4 silver turkeys in a flock of about thirty. They are beginning to spread all over throughout the south. Also in the flock of thirty there was a turkey that stood out more than the silver turkeys. He was red! And i mean red bright like carrot top. When i got back to the camp i told everyone and of course they didnt believe me. So the next day one of them hunted the box stand saw ol red. After that everyone had to hunt the stand just to see the turkey. So the weekend of deer hunting turned into bird watching. I have also noticed that all of the silver turkeys posted and the ones i have sen are hens.

I saw two pure white breaded turkeys with 10 inch beards and pink eyes in Sherburne two years ago, from a ground blind deer hunting at about 2 feet, Max but I would always see the same two year after year !! but during turkey season only normal birds ! and I killed many birds in there but never the white ones. I talked the the game warden who told me that the white ones are normally hens. So male white turkeys are rare!!
