Trim Tabs

I have a Skeeter ZX20 that I have run for a few years. The boat handles good in a chop for a 20' rig. A buddy of mine told me that installing a set of hydraulic trim tabs would really make a noticeable difference. I've never had a boat with hydraulic tabs before, only fixed position tabs on a flat before. Is a 20' boat too small for the tabs to make a difference? I only see them on larger bay boats. Thanks.

Trim Tabs
I have a Skeeter ZX2250 and you will see a difference running into a head sea because the nose will stay down. Tabs should only be used in a head sea or to level your boat. If you use them in a following sea, you're gonna eat one over the bow. When your tabs are down, you are also burning more fuel.

I have a 24 skeeter that I added tabs to. Love them. Most of the time you don't need them, but when you do it makes all the difference in the ride. This is normally in a bad chop where you need to get the nose of the boat down. Tabs allow you to get the nose down and stay on plane at a slower speed but having the motor trimmed up. When you trim the motor down to get the nose down it creates a lot of drag that makes the ride much rougher. The other benefit is if you get back in shallow water. To get up on the step, trim your tabs all the way down. The tabs will lift the back of the boat and keep it from digging down. You'll need to raise them quickly as you get on the step. Really helps. I added the Lectra tabs which are 12volt, not hyraulic. Much cheaper and easy to install. If you do install them yourself, buy a tee handle screw driver with the proper size bit. This will make all the difference in the world. I learned this from experience. Good Luck.

I have a 17' boat with a 90. The trim tabs make it ride like the boat was 2'-0 longer when the wind kicks up. I also get a better cruise speed and a little more on the top end. I trim them down a little and trim up the motor. You have more control of how the boat runs. They are definitely worth the investment.

We have them on our 23' Ranger Bay and they make a huge difference in rough water and help you get up in shallow water.

Iceman, I have hydraulic tabs on my 18-foot boat, and it definitely makes a major difference. I highly recommend them.

i have smart tabs on my 16ft. they made a huge difference. my boat is overpowered and it helps with porpoising. smarttabs are self adjusting with a coilover strut type actuator. no electronics. I LOVE EM..

The trim tabs on my Ranger 185VS Intracoastal didn't help me in the chop as much, because the boat isn't that long. Where it did come in to play is just as was stated before; When I want a very shallow take off (cause you know our bass boat's gonna squat), I put the trim tabs all the way down and trim the motor all the way up on the jack plate and trim all the way down. I could almost take off flat. I would trim it back normal after I got running to save gas. The other bonus was I could pull a person on a tube very slow with out the bow raising up and dropping off step. Partial to LENCO. They have been good to me.

I have the lenco 90 degree strong edge with the led indicators getting installed Tuesday i run a 19 ft Century with a 150 yamaha , I run 52 mph with 2 people and 48mph with 4, ask anyone who has ever fished with me my boat, it does two speeds 0 and 52 and, I have had this one for 7 years,, floor it,,, balls to the wall,, i can jump on plane in 4 second to 28mph in 18' of water drafting 12', I wanted it for a different reason, and my podna's at boat stuff are gonna fix me up , I wanted a jackplate for lift, I wanted to be able to take off in 14' total in the ponds, but they told me a jackplate on a century 19ft in not a good idea, I was told adding the strong 90 degree not the straight edge are stronger and the led indicators let you know where they at, cause if not they like a power pole when your hand is on the button the pump keep working, however, after mine are installed i should gain a second jumping on plane and be able to get into much skinnier water, and when riding in rough seas well thats just a bonus..

Goodluck Brother ,, i say talk to my boy Dave at Boat stuff or Chris they are the only ones that touch my boat, thats why my 13 year old boat still runs like a champ and looks brand new....

Gotta go tournament in the morning was on 16 pounds yesterday hope they there tomorrow!!
