WOW! Its been a LOOOOOONG time since I last
posted a report. Obviously we were shut down
completely last year in Venice due to the oil spill.
It was so frustrating running around the BP guys
for Vessel of Opportunity and seeing schools of
fish attacking bait, birds diving, slicks off of my
favorite points.... The only good is that we did not
witness any fish kills and all those fish we would
have been catching are left over for this year!!
Getting back to it this spring has been welcomed!!
The only problem is that the winds have been
pretty relentless...but that's no problem in Venice!
We always have a place to hide and catch fish.
Limits of reds have been common everyday...as
usual in Venice. Speckled trout catches have been
pretty darn good as well despite the winds. I've
had several limits in the 20mph South winds. The
really big fish haven't showed up just yet, but its
time. I'll bet that an 8lbs+ fish will come from
Venice in the next week. May is the time to catch
the big ones.
Normally this time of year its artificial only, but
with the winds, live shrimp has been the ticket.
Most of the fish have come from the south shores
of the bays fishing out off the points. 3-5 pound
fish have been really common but like I said, its
time for the big ones to show!
Normally I am booked up for May over a year in
advance but this year has been off to slow
start...guess people are still scared of the oil that
we never even got! With that being said, I have a
few scattered openings including a cancellation
for this Friday.
