Profile picture contest

OK, guys, we're starting a profile picture contest this month. Here's how it's going to work:

Update your profile picture (just click 'View Profile' in the upper right-hand corner of this page, and then click 'Edit My Profile' beneath the profile picture space).

Post a comment in this thread. The comment doesn't have to be anything fancy: It can be as simple as, 'Here's my profile picture.'

Each Friday during May, I'll go through the entries for that week and give away a couple of Sportsman T-shirts and decals.

You can change your profile pic each week and re-enter.

That's it. Sweet and simple.

So be sure you have updated your profile, and be creative (but G rated, please). It can be a photo of you with a big deer or fish, your favorite cartoon character, whatever.

Round 2 winners are:
Here are the winners for week No. 2:

Swine-Stalker - A kid with a fish in his mouth. Can it get any better than that? Old SS is obviously raising his kid right, so he'll get a Sportsman T-shirt and a decal.

rice n gravy - This is a hook-and-bullet site, and a photo of an absolute crappie slaughter just epitomizes what we all love. Plus, I'm a terrible sac-a-lait fisherman, so that photo just impressed the heck out of me. A free T-shirt and decal.

captkb1 - We can say how much we love to fish, but it's really all about that hookset. THAT's why we all spend so much time and money chasing things with fins. Free T-shirt.

KENMAX - Tired from the hunt, Zulu just couldn't go one step farther. Free decal.

Winners for round three will be chosen from photos entered from Saturday (May 14) through Friday (May 20). All users are eligible (except the winners from the past two weeks), so if you already entered you can update your profile pic and enter again.

perfect morning without a limit.
It was a beautiful morning in my favorite blind in Hopedale. The wind was blowing and it was too cold for mosquitos. Ava, the taller brown and gray dog in the picture, was a puppy and by the second split she was trained adequately to come out and hunt. Her first hunt was a bit of a bust with only one redhead to show for it and Ava had been nearly uncontrollable with excitement the whole morning. However on this morning my old Boykin Charlie (97-08) was on full alert knowing the weather would bring ducks and he showed Ava what my wife and I could not the week before, nipping her on the side of the neck when she cut up on the dog stand. As soon as day broke we started killing ducks one at a time and sending the dogs in turn to retrieve. In an instant Ava grasped why Charlie had been staring so intently at the dark sky and joined him in his constant searching of the skies. Limits would have been no problem if that had been our goal but we stayed with a single dead bird from each flock so Ava could learn. Finally with five birds between the two of us, I elected to cut loose and show Ava that birds did not always fall one by one. On a big flock of greenwings I dropped three (not a true triple but one hit, then a miss and then a scotch double), but this time all three were wounded. I cut both dogs loose in the interest of not loosing any even though I expected idiocy to ensue. Instead to my amazement they split up: Ava corralling a nearby cripple in the pond while Charlie caught a bird in the grass. They each brought me a bird and then went back out to search out the last one. Ava found the bird in the grass quickly (being ten at this point Charlie was a bit slower than his protege) but it ran back into the pond ahead of her and dove. By this point Charlie was on the scene and gave Ava a look of 'here's how we do this kid' then ran over to a swirl in the pond, dove underwater and came up with a very lively drake in his mouth. After that sequence we missed a few and then called it a day deciding that a few more birds could not really make the day any better than it already was. From that day forward until Charlie's demise from cancer a year later they made as good a retrieving team as one could ask, never stealing a retrieve or fighting over birds, always dividing and conquering multiple falls. I've killed limits in less than five minutes and watched my dogs do some amazing things over the years but watching my old Boykin show my aspiring puppy how the duck blind connected to all those drills we had been doing on a perfect snotty morning with my beautiful wife makes this my favorite duck hunt ever and so this photo will always be my profile picture on the site.

MY PROFILE PIC
After many trips to the woods with my baby girl, we finally got her first deer. It should have been a week earlier, but I was trying to make it to perfect for her to remember for ever and capture it all on video. We had deer come out on us several times but never once present us with the perfect shot, finally we had a couple does come out and after getting her set up and ready for the shot, the bigger doe stepped behind a tree. So I tell her dads going to grab the camera and record it for you, of course the camera wasn't facing the rite shooting lane so I decided to take it off the tripod and record it by hand. While trying to watch the deer, keep an eye on her, and get the camera I forgot what I was doing and the release on the tripod slipped out of my handand made that little clicking noise, and low and behold the deer blew and jetted out of site. It was a sad moment for her but she said dad it's ok it's a team effort and I would have probably missed anyway, but I knew she was hurt and just didn't want me to feel bad, because that was about the lowest low in my life knowing I screwed up her first chance. It was silent for a few minutes so I looked over her shoulder and I seen tears running down her face then it really hit home that I screwed up, and I said to myself if it's the last thing I do this hunting season it will be to get her that first deer. So the next weekend came around and I said we leaving the video camera at the camp and we shall take pictures and video's when we return with a dead deer, and she was like that's a deal dad. There we were that afternoon on stand and a young deer came out to the feed, I told her okay baby girl heres your chance at your first kill again, so we setup on the deer and I told her when she's ready let it bark, well it barked and dad wasn't ready lol and scared the hell out of me. It wasn't the best shot but it got the job done. We tracked it for about 80yds and there it layed dead, then the tears started rolling down dads face to see his baby girl with so much joy in her heart and soul for the outdoors.
