Old batteries

Anyone know of a place near hammond that buys old car batteries?

I think there is a junk yard a ways west of you on 190 that used to buy old batteries.

Something I was told yesterday,,, a guy takes old batteries, dumps out all liquid, douches the internals with a water baking soda mixture, rinses out and refills with new acid and distilled water. He swears his batteries are done this way time and time again ? ?

I have not heard of this before.
