EAST BAY MANGROVES

Reply
Another great trip to East Bay for Red Snapper and Mangrove.

Problem is I left my camera at home and might have eaten a CCA Star leader Mangrove. Maybe a couple of them.

Red Snapper bite was early. When it stopped I free lined a live croaker and this 12+lb Mangrove nailed it. Next cast same thing. Gave rod to nephew and he caught or broke off Mangrove every cast. Lost all my terminal tackle!!

Took pic with cell phone before cleaning. Ryan said Mangrove was heavy and he looked at boga and it was pushing 13lbs. Anyway cleaned fish and it hit me that that fish may make the leader cca leader board and I looked this morning and the leader is 12.47lbs. Oh Well! Guess I will try again!

This is Ryan Harris and his girlfriend Susie with her first Red Snapper.

They had a ball!

Looks like you had fun. Which pass do you usually run to get to east bay.

I fish South Pass beaches and rocks a lot and usually go through the Captains Cut into East Bay.

Note: South Pass has a pretty extensive sand bar several miles down. You need to say to the left. I believe their was a serious accident last week of someone hitting the sand bar.

Thanks. I have run to east bay down south pass but I usually have to go pass the jetties to loop back around. I see cuts along the route but hesitant to try any of them. Whereabouts is this captains cut in south pass. Want to avoid the open gulf as much as possible in my bayboat.

Another excellent report from East Bay. Looking for a little more details on your trip. Told you we were trying to go last week, but we did not make it down because of work. We are headed down tomorrow morning. I usually run through Joseph Bayou out into East Bay. We did not do as good as we normally do last time we went. We were fishing in 55' of water as we always do. Were you fishing in deeper water again. I have trouble keeping the croaker alive for the run down the river so we just use pogie and squid. Did yall limit out? What depth were you in and what depth were the fish hanging? Thanks again for any info.
