Taxidermy

I am looking for a taxidermy
to mount a bull redfish. Does anyone know of someone local that is good with these mounts?

Your best bet to get a bull red mounted is to get a reproduction and not a skin mount. It is virtually impossible to get all the oils out of a bull red and over time it will leech out of the mount and ruin it. Take a look at any bull red skin mounts you see and you will notice an orange discoloration (particularly around the head/mouth/gills)-that is from the oil.

Good taxidermy is expensive. A reproduction mount cost a little more than a skin mount, but will last forever. Let me know if you have any questions.

Bass Pro did my reproduction. It was 10 bucks an inch. They put it on a nice piece of driftwood chasing minnows.

Chris you are correct about the bull red mount. There is another option though. Now you can mount the body of the bull red (skin) and use an artificial cast head. Will solve the problem of the grease eventually leaching out from the head.

Gwamp-You are correct about the method of just replacing the head.

However, I don't recommend that approach either.

To do so, you create a seam between the artificial head and the natural body of the fish. Due to the fish body being natural and the head being artificial, there will be different aging properties over time. Not to mention the epoxy or other filler that must be used to fill the seam. It is very likely that the seam will crack or otherwise degrade over time. I say it's just not worth it in the long run for a lasting mount that cost a pretty penny. Go with the full reproduction.

I have used several guys over the years and found a hidden gem. His name is Glenn. He does it on the side in his back garage and does awesome work. It will be the right color etc! I have never seen a replica worth a crap yet!!! Anyway his number is 504-275-6051. The best part is you wont wait a year either!! He has already done 25 fish for me and I highly recommend him to everyone. His rates are too generous as well.
