I might be wrong, but I thought the Geax Fish tournament tagged 50 Specks, not Reds. Maybe he caught a STARR fish?

They tagged 44 redfish and 6 specks. We called to make sure. But thanks for being concerned.

I too thought it was trout only. The tv commercial for it only mentions trout. Cant see tag very well, and dont know what type of tags they used but it looks like a regular tag that the La fish tagging program gives out to fisherman.Good luck

Geaux Fish to reel in up to $275,000 in cash and prizes Fish waters from Calcasieu to Breton Sound July 2—Sept. 5 to win big
NEW ORLEANS—June 23, 2011—Calling all anglers: prepare to cast your line for the fishing event of the season. The Louisiana Charter Boat Association (LCBA) and BP are proud to announce Geaux Fish, your chance to reel in up to $275,000 in cash and other prizes while doing what anglers do best—fishing—from July 2 to Sept. 5, 2011.
Geaux Fish, with the help of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), is tagging 50 speckled trout in waters from Lake Calcasieu to Breton Sound, and each one is a winner. One fish is tagged as the grand prize, worth up to $250,000. Five other major prizes include a new 2011 Ford F-150 Supercab, a 2011 Blazer Bay 2170 boat and trailer, and three individual cash prizes of $5,000 each. The remaining 44 fish represent cash prizes and other big-ticket items totaling more than $22,000.
Catch the grand prize fish while fishing with a registered Louisiana charter boat captain to increase your winnings by up to 10 percent, totaling up to a potential $275,000—and that’s no fish tale!

I caught a tagged red 2 weeks ago with a tag that read: Reward call 1-800-891-3977. and there was a 'LW******' tag number. I called it in twice and got a recording both times. I left my info, but never hear a peep. On the Geaux Coastal deal, do the tags clearly ID them a Geaux Coastal tags?

I took part in the tagging and releasing of the fish for the Geaux Fish tournement. It was only trout that were released. There were 10 released in the baritaria basin. All of these tags are green and about 3 inches long. LDWF does catpture and release tagged fish also.
