H&R 243 grouping problem

Reply
I recently purchased a used youth 243 H&R with a redhead 3x9x40 scope with Hornday 100gr bullets. The best group I can get with this setup is 2.5inch group at 100yrds. Is this the best I should except? I am thinking try different bullets or another scope.
Thanks

I BOUGHT THE WIFE AND I EACH ONE WHEN THEY FIRST GOT POPULAR AND HAD THE SAME LUCK. I HAVE A .270 AND SHE HAD A 7MM-08. I FOUGHT AND FOUGHT WITH THEM TO GET ANY KIND OF GROUPING. I EVEN MISSED A FEW DECENT DEER WITH IT. I TRIED DIFFERENT ROUNDS AND U NAME IT I DID IT. FINALLY I ENDED UP PUTTING NIKON PROSTAFF BDC RETICLE SCOPES ON THEM. COME TO FIND OUT ITS THE JAR FROM CLOSING THEM THAT MESSES UP THE AVERAGE ECONOMY SCOPES THAT YOU WOULD NORMALLY USE ON A REGULAR BOLT OR AUTO ACTION RIFLE. WELL GOOD LUCK BUDDY

Ive got one that my kids use I was able to get about 1-1.5' groups from a rest using Remington Core Locts. Kids have killed several deer and a pig with that rifle in the past two seasons. Maybe just try some diffrent ammo to see what yours eats best. Good Luck

Browse the net an see what others are recommending. I own a single shot .243 with the heavy barrel. Federal 100g vital shock seems to work the best. But.. not every gun will react to the same ammo. Good luck!
