Depending on where you hunt. You can limit out on them just about every day in some areas. Personally, I wouldn't mount a hen, but a mature drake is one of the best looking ducks you could mount. I don't shoot them often because I don't think they tast that great. They are like the diving version of a teal, without the great taste of one. I find that they typically don't work a spread, but they come out of nowhere and will drop in on your teal dekes in a heart beat. I could be wrong, but I think they are much more comon in S.E. LA as aposed to S.W. I hunt the biloxi marsh a lot and some years they are all over.

I killed it in Catahoula, la. We NEVER see bufflehead. There is a beautiful drake mounted at a friend's camp and this hen looks nothing like it. I prob will mount it to complete the pair. The drake was killed 20 years ago by his dad.

Hunt along shoreline of Lake Pontch. or Borgne, can pick your specimen for the wall and put your six on the strap in a hurry. Beautiful drakes for sure! We usually kill a 2-3 a year in the SE La marshes of those areas, usually just drop in with the other dekes.
