Bad news guys. The government is one step closer to putting shackles and chains on you.

Google 'battle field America' or the 'Defense Authorization Bill'.

The bill allows the government, THE MILITARY, to snatch you out of your house and detain you forever with out a trail. Nazis?

Furthermore, and amendment to the original bill was proposed by Senator Udall that would have deleted the 'detainee' provision of Americas, it was called the Udall amendment.

Yours Truly, LandTrash and Qvuitter, our senators voted AGAINST the Udall Amendment, which means the provision to trample the constitution and stomp on your rights will remain in the bill.

Ignore your rights, they will go away.

They get closer by the day and no one cares to stand up for what's right. You almost have a 50/50 split between government workers and civilians. In due time people will see but only when it's too late will they care for change. Obama has his own private militia for a civilian uprising now u tell me what that says about him. 30 something czars and a comitee for everything under the sun to go around congress. It's close to being communist we still have the little things and that's it. Sad sad story that needs to be addressed! I could go on for days but this page doesnt have enough room for it! Thanks for the post. Wish more people cared

Moral of the story: BUY MORE AMMO

yat-yas, the reason?
the reason china can tell us about fiscal responsibility is, because we're making china rich, because we are to stupid to make it here and put americans to work and make our own economy prosper!!!! so, we have it made there and buy every damn thing from them, to help their economy!! i bet them chinese think, we are some ignorant and i think they're right!! for sure our dumb politicians anyway!!! of course, we can't forget, you know them dumb politicians are getting kickbacks and money under the table because of this, no doubt at all!!!! i know it ain't just china, it's lots of other countries also, that just makes us, even more stupid!! can you imagine, how much better, our economy would be, if we made things here, so simple!! look, we buy things from mexico, why??? all the mexicans are in this country!!

what really pisses me off is that nobody can take the time to go vote for their senators and state reps. We had an election just a week or so ago and everyone was at the camp or something and didnt feel it was important to go vote. The senators and state reps and those guys are the important ones. Everyone in the dang country will vote for the president and those votes dont even make a diff..people better wake up on their own or some one else is going to wake them up, and it aint gonna be pretty.

There are things that tax paying, hard working Americans can do.

#1 Everyone file married and 9 on your W-4's. (the key here would be that you would still have to save your money, instead of giving the money in weekly/biweekly payments, you hold it until the next filing season)

#2 Quit. Stop working. Take off. If you have no income, the government can't confiscate it. (I recommend not attempting this unless your debt free, and live in a home that is totally covered by the homestead exemption)

#3 Stop voting like idiots. Understand who it is your voting for. Do some homework. (probably the easiest way)

lazy people
the only thing about making things here is that most people here are too lazy to get up and work. Cant blame them really with the nanny state we have going on here. We need to cut out all the freebies for able bodied people so they'll get off their buts and work for it. Now dont get me wrong some people are in need and cant work and i see nothing wrong with helping them , but com'on really.

What's wrong with this country
What's wrong with this country, is that the voter mentality is to vote for the person that is going to give me something. I saw a prime example during debates for the previous Presidential election. A female college student asked what Ron Paul thought of her being cut off of the birth control program. Ron Paul gave her the real answer that she should not be on free government paid for birth control or any other program if able to work and pay her way. The audience became quite and right then I knew it was the end for Ron Paul. Why do you think so many legislators from New Orleans carries the State? Why does the majority of our tax dollars go to New Orleans and Baton Rouge. My father in law was in Alaska serving the Air Force during the cold war. He always maintained 911 was put in service to listen in to conservation in private homes, even with the phone on the hook. I always thought he was full of it until some of his other statements were revealed to be correct. Fact it our government likes to spy on us. An article can out today where the smart phone sent every keystroke back to the manufacturer under the guise of helping us out? Ray http://news.yahoo.com/yes-even-iphones-spy-too-145504393.html

Against the Constution to use military on US soil
WASHINGTON (AP) — Ignoring a presidential veto threat, the Democratic-controlled Senate on Thursday overwhelmingly approved a massive, $662 billion defense bill that would require the military to hold suspected terrorists linked to al-Qaida or its affiliates, even those captured on U.S. soil, and detain some indefinitely
The bill would require military custody of a suspect deemed to be a member of al-Qaida or its affiliates and involved in plotting or committing attacks on the United States. American citizens would be exempt. The bill does allow the executive branch to waive the authority based on national security and hold a suspect in civilian custody.
The legislation also would deny suspected terrorists, even U.S. citizens seized within the nation's borders, the right to trial and subject them to indefinite detention. Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., had sought an exception to the provision for U.S. citizens, but her effort failed, 55-45.

I don't think the idea of todays unions are what we had 40 years ago. Workers unions, and I was part of one (United Steel Worker), if you read the literature, is all about socialism. It protects the ones that says: 'Thats not my job,' The one that does little to nothing and expects the world. As for the NRA/CCA these are organizations, not unions, that are created and supported by individuals who support the particular cause, Good or bad. My thought is, be selfish! The government, as well as the people living on the system are doing the same. Give a good days work for a good days pay. Live for what is good for you, and no matter what, understand that good will was not designed for moochers. Be faithfull, and live a moral life. But take care of yourself, and your neighbors.

Off subject
Sorry, didn't mean to take your guys post off subject. Just wanted to point out that unions and organizations ALWAYS over reach. All of them start with good intentions but end up over reaching. You mentioned the steel unions. Do your research and you will see that the unions decreased the american steel industry by over 80% by bankrupting those companies. All that 'safer workplace, pay up to the national average for that job, better enviroment, better health care options' cost money, which makes us as americans less competitive globally. Which is why the chinese can build pipe at home, ship it to us, faster, and of better quality, for cheaper prices. Look at this pipeline from La to Canada. Same thing is going on with our timber industry, Not to mention the way we are getting trampled in the auto industry.

You mention the CCA, they overreached by trying to ban bowfishing. I'm not going to even start on the NRA and their hypocrisy. My point is, you can't only concentrate on the good things unions and organizations accomplish, you have to take the bad things with it. The very government your complaining about is the biggest union on the planet. I think over reaching is an understatement.

I believe the reason people don't comment on posts like this is not because they don't care, or are stupid rednecks, but because they have come to the realization that there is nothing that they can do, short of this place looking like lebanon (as previously stated). You guys are right about their lobbying power though. So much so, that they have lobbied special laws to protect themselves. Not from government, but from their biggest threat; honest, independent, hard workers. Remember Boeings new plant in a 'right to work' state.

In closing, the people running these unions and organizations don't give two chits about you. They are making millions of dollars and throwing you just enough scraps to keep you paying dues. Like a carrot hanging over your head, and you just keep following with your mouth open, over reaching yourself.

unions didn't cause everything to be made in china, greedy corporations did! they don't want to pay a worker a descent salary, so they moved their business to china, where the labor rate is nothing and the quality is nothing!! everything from china is absolute junk and these corporations don't care!! they only care about more profit!! remember chinese drywall, kids toys with lead paint, chinese made pet food, killing hundreds of animals and all the rest of the trash, that comes out of china!! i guess you are saying, you would like to make the same wage as a chinese worker!!!! ask your boss to cut your salary, i'm sure he would be glad to do it!!! get rid of all the unions and i'm sure soon, you will be making the same wage as a chinese worker!!! just curious, how much do you think an american blue collar worker, should be paid an hour or how much an hour is too much?? i guess, its ok, for a ceo of a corporation, to make $265,000,000.00 a year in salary alone, thats not counting his stock options, expense accounts, gigantic bonuses and multi, multi millions in retirement!!! 365 days(1 year) minus 96 days(saturdays and sundays)equals to, 269 working days a year!! he makes almost, $1,000,000 a day, every day, he shows up to work, or plays golf!! he's not union, is that a bit much???? i'm sure the enormous salaries and benefits all the ceo's and big wigs salaries are, with all these big corporations, has nothing to do with everything being made in china, just the descent salaries union blue collar workers make!!

misunderstood
I think you guys misunderstood my post, but I don't have the time nor the patience to simplify it. Lets just take a look at the wonderful things unions are doing these days. NFL, NBA, US postal service, US auto industry, US airline industry, US steel industry, US timber industry, Boeing's new plant, Public education, the list goes on and on. Please pick one that you would like to defend.

Its kind of hard to argue in favor of unions with the bang-up record they have. EVERY industry they involve themselves with either has trouble, or has a sharp increase in the price of their products or services. All in all, it amounts to higher prices for the consumers, triggering the demand for cheaper products, triggering the imports from china, triggering lobbying by unions to block imports, triggering higher prices for consumers, and the vicious cycle continues. It's basically inflation localized to that specific industry.

As for my security; yes, I am secure in the fact that I can fail or succeed all on my own. I don't want, a group fighting for my way of life, nor will I blame that group when I'm not strong enough to keep my way of life. I AM NOT ENTITLED.

No sir, I like to think that I'm far to honest to be a politician. Plus, I don't think I could afford those union built, black SUVs. You say 'Why cut off the hand that feeds you?' Well I'd like to ask the same question, because it seems all unions are formed to fight AGAINST the company that employs them. Thats the whole point I'm trying to make. Every hurdle that a company has to leap MUST get added to the cost, making it more expensive for the consumer. Its apparent that you have never had to deal with this as an employer. All of these unions want the same thing, they want more of the company's profits, but they have not taken the risks that the owners of that company have taken.

I could go on and on about every industry we've mentioned but I don't have the time, so here's a few.

GM: I recently bought my wife a 2011 GMC acadia. I've owned nothing but american vehicles my entire life. Can you believe that this high quality, union built, $27,000 SUV doesn't come with a spare tire as standard equipment. It's a $1000 option if you don't want to get left on the side of the road. Instead we get a $10 air compressor that plugs into a cigarette lighter as standard. Not even a little donut tire to limp on down the road to the repair shop. This is how we as consumers pay for your unions. Not by buying a better built product for a little more money, but by paying the same price for less quality. Needless to say thats the last union built pile of crap I'm buying.

NFL/NBA: When a man that makes 5 million dollars a year, playing a game, can relate his situation to 'modern day slavery', I would hope I don't have to explain this one to you. Meanwhile the consumer pays hundreds of dollars to watch one game with his family. Yes, I know its a choice, but really?

Timber: Again, when the chinese can cut timber on american soil, put it on a ship, sail into international water, mill it to lumber onboard the ship, return to port in america, and sell it back to us for less than we can produce it, something is seriously wrong.

Education: Private school teachers make way less than public school teachers, yet the education is ten times better. How anybody can defend this union is beyond me.

Out of time for now, but if you like, I can continue later if you still haven't recognized the pattern here. Unions are good for the people in them, but not so much for everyone else that has to pay for them.

Unions
Unions are GREAT - IF - IF - they are governed correctly.

Meaning, the men/women in the union, stay together, work together, and bring a competitive workforce to the company. In the old days, unions worked to create value for the company, then demanded a fair share.

Now most unions have lost the desire to create value for their company, and have a more destructive attitude. This is not good for either.

I can say these things because I was part of a Union and very active for a while. I am no longer in a Union.

I hear stories of the old days when an employee screwed up and made the union look bad or the company lose money, he/she was fired. Nowdays, most unions seem to protect those that lag.

funny
Man, that is laughable at best. So, you worked for peanuts, your employer 'HATED' you, and they killed people like it was going out of style. Yet, instead of finding a new job, you stood outside a gate and protested for three freaking years. I think these things should go both ways. How would you feel if the owners of your company went on strike, quit signing your paychecks for three years, and stood outside your house chanting.

Here's a few more of your quotes that are very one sided.

'if you treat your employees with dignity respect and truly care about them, then your company will never need to be organized' So, now that your new found foreigner owners care so much about you, will you guys abolish your union? You have everything you want now, right? What do you need bargaining power for? greed?.........that's funny

'But get me right, I do want more of their profits.' Because you show up for work everyday, do you really feel entitled to profit sharing? Have you ever had to make a loan to keep your company afloat? When your company got sued for the death of those 12 people, did you have to defend yourself in court or did you have to purchase enough insurance to protect yourself from these types of accidents? I'm betting not......you simply punch a clock and go home. No risk but all reward.

If you don't mind me asking, what industry are you working in? I'd like to do a bit of research. Nothing personal, just broad products or services. No company names are needed.

Not just politicians
The politicians arent the only corrupt and greedy ones, its entire branches of government. Correct me if im wrong but the way it was explained to me was this: Lets say for example when in LA it comes time to do the yearly budget, branches such as DEQ, DOTD, DWLF...They all (through a very complicated process) request a certain percentage of the budget. But because everyone is greedy if DOTD needs 10% of the budget they dont ask for 10% they ask for 20%. They do this because every other branch asks for more than they need and if they dont they will end up being under funded. So because of this the money in our states budget doesnt get split up the way it should. Thats why its not just the politicians who are greedy its entire branches of government. Like i said I could have totally missed this, but this is how it was explained to me. Everything revolves around greed. I know this has nothing to do with unions but to me it seems like its not just the big name people in politics its the system as a whole. As far as unions are concerned, i wish my last job would have been union, i would probably still work there. However it wasnt union and was one of the most unsafe working environments i could think of.

Maybe he'll come back if we establish a better posting environment here on the sportsman. You know, a little ranting security, or a safer blogging atmosphere. Just picking.....

Beast, If we made a quality product at a market determined price, we would have no reason to import from china. The problem is our prices are inflated by gov. restrictions, taxes, and outrageous union labor rates. When a guy that does nothing more than install car stereos on the assembly line, makes 160k a year, that cost is passed to the consumer. The only way these companies can stay competitive is to find a way to manufacture their product cheaper. Since the union labor rates continue to climb, and the gov. restrictions and taxes aren't going anywhere, the only other place to cut cost is quality. The foreign car manufacturers are embarrassing us. While we produce flops like the hybrid/electric vehicles that get 40 mpg or so and then need to be plugged into an outlet for 6 hours. Companies like VW are building diesel vehicles that get better than 50 mpg, and there not little toaster ovens on wheels, some of these are full size luxury cars.

Made to go, nice point, been a supporter for a while now. Good group. this is one organization I can support.

This post has a great point, and that point is not unions. It is the fact that your basic rights are being trampled, and we still stand and let it happen every day. the patriot act first, and now the NDAA. in January the FAA will vote on new regulations to allow drones(same ones overseas) across our nation. All this to keep an eye on the land of the free, and the home of the brave. Why? 'They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.' Government saving us
What no one understands about the Government employees is that all the cutting is the middle management that get the job done. In the military they are the NCOs. The State of Louisiana has almost completed the process by laying off the real workers that know how to do the job and replacing them with minimum wage workers that can be cut loose at any time with no benefits or job protection. Can you imagine a military with no NCO's? Also the mature workers, able to retire or those having enough of doing four times the work they are supposed to do are leaving in droves,I know because I'm gone to Texas with my 30 yrs of experience, with the monies we invested in the retirement system; which the taxpayers will have to fund as the past legislators used that money for pet projects. Jindal has been selling this to the public as a way to save money and to get rid of Civil Service. He sells out Civil Service as being like the unions while in fact it was installed during the era of the Long's to prevent cronyism and awarding of public contracts to contributors just as Obama is doing right now. Meanwhile, the Baton Rouge admin. staffs have grown and to get around the ban Jindal implemented on employee raises he gave them new job titles. The same is happening with the Legislature pushing the 9th raise in 11 years for Judges, because the Legislature gets the raise if the judges do. One more part of the bad news from Baton Rouge is a new purchasing plan to buy only from select provider's(contributors) and in turn eliminating local business in the process. This is the change Jindal represents diverting millions of our tax dollars from public projects in the name of cuts on waste then giving it to private businesses and calling it job growth much like Obama and his energy efficient plants. We need to understand that all the job cuts filter down to us with lose of taxes, more folks on the government dole and loss of local small businesses because all the monies are diverted to baton Rouge and New Orleans. Well to the new Louisiana where you will really wait in long lines by next year. Merry Christmas ans good luck; Ray

actually, beast
You would not have starved working for me. I believe a man should be paid a fair wage, including benefits. I'm easy. If your work is worthy of the pay, I'll pay.
A contract is set up between employee/employer. Not some labor lawyer with a chip on his/her shoulder. I want to keep good people. Not be forced to keep bad.
The wage depends on the man. I'm not going to pay a 1st class welder, who can only weld carbon steel and stainless, the same pay as the 1st class welder that can weld both of the above, plus monel, and hastelloy. I'm not going to pay 2 deckhands the same wage, if one of the deckhands continues to miss ties causing barges to slip.
It's the 'Pay for the title, not the work' mentality that drives me. I worked in a union shop. My work was not as good as some, but better than most. I didn't expect to get paid the same as the man doing the best work, or all the work in some cases.
Unions were great when safety, or lack thereof, was an issue. When sick days were non existant. When people were working 16 hr days for pennies. The government has stepped in most cases. A minimum wage was set up. You know the story.
I believe in personal responsibility. It's about choice. If you feel you're worth more, find a way to make more. If you're not happy with your wage, find better. When I was met with the same choice, it's what I did.

I hope you have a Merry Christmas, and a happy New Year as well. Thank you btw.

i agree!
pokechop and ray, ya'll make some real good points and i agree with ya'll! sack531, if you treat your employees like you say, you won't have to worry about the union coming in, because, if your employees are satisified and happy with the way you treat them, they won't want the union anyway! i don't blame them at all in this situation!! it's when employers don't give workers fair and just pay and want to keep as much profit as they can for their own pockets, thats when they need unions to keep people from getting jacked!! my opinion!!! merry Christmas and a happy new year to all!!!!

I'm on strike......until you guys quit giving each other reach arounds, and produce a rational argument.

By the way, sorry about the silencing you comment. My mistake to think that a union guy would live up to his word: 'debate is over'. My mistake, won't happen again.

And grandpa, way to discipline.
