Straight from the horses mouth. Mudbuddy teamed up with mercury and built a merc lower unit . Spoke with Mudbuddys national salesman today, he confirmed it should be available in june. We've all heard this before so guess we'll see, 2012 mudbuddy with reverse , .http://www.backwaterperformancesystems.com

One it looks like a pro drive, two the link you gave didn't provide any info on the new mudbuddy.
Just sayin! I will believe it when I see it on the showroom floor of the dealers.

If thats a pic of it it looks like they may have teamed up with an outboard maker wich would be great. you can get a reverse thru gears en the lower unit making it dependable and not having the weight of a clutch up top. cool design always thought of that, but figured they did not have the technology unless teamed up with an outboard maker to make the all in one casted lower unit.

Looks like prodrive, why? because it has a vertical engine? Well then I guess my zero turn mower looks like a prodrive too.

i love surface drives all of them, there good and bad in every brand . they say this new mudbuddy reverse is just like a reverse on a merc, if so thats awesome. now if they could find a way to make a cover for the motor like a cawling that would work with a air cooled motor that would be the icing on cake . For us its all about performance so if it does what they say it does and like it did for there trial runs then look out !!

I have read all the threads on this new motor and can say this motor will be one of a kind. Mudbuddy has thought of everything on this one! I currently run a mudbuddy and in my opinion its the best all around mud motor on the market but they needed a reverse badly. I will be waiting for the 32 inch outdrive and can't wait to see some reviews.

Prodrive
If the lower unit don't spin around, then the reverse will just good enough to back it off the trailer just like Gatortail!!!

Oh, you will also be able to fill your boat with mud and water too!!!

reverse will be the same as a outboard

No power
There are reasons a gear case in front of the wheel has not been done successfully. You canít make it strong enough to take the abuse of hitting stuff. If you make it stronger the gear case will be bigger and it will cause too much drag in front of the wheel (for running in mud). Thatís why you canít get up with an outboard in mud. Also the same problem with reverse the gear case would have to be much larger to have full reverse. For performance (in Mud) everything in front of the wheel has to be skinny. To skinny and it will bend. Trust me each guy that tried to build his own prototype started with an outboard foot. But itís a cool cartoon drawing though. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Well...
Pipeliner, the reverse on an outboard is not good in the mud. Sooo...thats my point.

And, a prop is designed to push through the water, not pull. Another reason why the prodrive FPR is so successful.

No perfect Mud Boat
Every mud boat has its limitations and each has it positives. Hard mud, soft mud, sandy mud, clam shells in mud, water lilies and the occasional telephone post in the mud. Do you hunt out of the boat or on land? Not to mention how loud it is? It just depends on what you have in your area and how long you have to run. But the most important is what you can afford?
