Just A Few

Been a while since I posted any reports, haven't been fishing as much as I would like to thanks to the weather. Here's a report from Saturday (3-10-12).
Woke up Saturday morning and the wind wasn't as bad as it had been the last few days. Drove past the lakefront and the lake looked good. Went back and picked up the boat and headed out to the Causeway. When I hit the bridge I started trolling with rattletraps. Had 2 lines out: 1 with just a 3/4oz trap the other with a 3/4oz trap and a Lemonhead Matrix Shad trailer. I had to guess at my speed since I was in my flat with no gps. Trolled for a while with no hits. I tried with and without throwing out my bucket to vary my speed and nothing. Picked up the lines and tried jigging for a little while. First cast with a Midnight Mullet Matrix Shad on a 3/8oz jig head I snagged a nice trout. I thought I was on to something but it didn't last long. So it was back to trolling. I headed more north on the bridge and started trolling south. It didn't take long and the trout started smacking the traps. Caught 4 solid trout in what seemed like minutes. Some hit the trap and some hit the trailer. Had a few misses in the mix as well. Then my window of somewhat calm wind shut down within minutes and I was headed in. Didn't kill em but can't complain considering the conditions, lack of tide and short amount of time out there.
Final count:
6 solid trout
5 that I put in the box and 1 a fellow fisherman gave me at the launch since he didn't want to clean only 1. I offered up 1 of my trout so he and his son could have had some lunch but he insisted on me taking the trout off his hands. Thanks again if your reading this!! Looking forward to the next trip...if the wind will cooperate!!

Tha Causeway troll
It ain't bad dude.Trolling takes a bit of practice and a little knowledge that everyone isn't quite told on a regular basis.
Luckly I had a good trolling padnuh teach me.
We went out the Friday before you went and caught 22 nice trout.
And you know how crappy the weather was that day.
One big piece of advice I can tell you is to only troll southbound.
Once you get a few, reel the lines in and go back and do the same thing again.

Trolling
Yeah MOJO, nice box there!! When I was trolling I did troll south. The problem was maintaining my speed and path due to the wind. When I figured out where the trout were I was only able to make a couple passes then the 2-3 footers started up! I tell you its a kick watching those rods when the trout hit the traps!!

drift sock
Supposedly Academy sells drift socks for boats under 19' for like $18.
I'm going to go get me one.We used a bucket in my boat but we could have gone a little slower and been more productive.
Thanks for the great detailed report man and look forward to reading your next post.

drift sock
I keep a drift sock in the big boat along with a bucket. I picked mine up at Academy. Just realized I had the wrong size trap in my post so I had to correct it.
