We just spent $2,200. for a one month fishing vacation in Grand Isle..Bay boat, state of the art electronics & tackle, 40 years fishing for reds & speck.trout in Fla., 5 years as charter owner, and after 10 days of very hard fishing, came up with ZERO. Returned home a week early...just gave up..never again..800 miles each way...fished 23 countries & 47 states...worse fishing trip ever..what's wrong with Louisiana? Spent $180. for two fishing license..had to buy both fresh & salt water...never used fresh..you can choose either in Fla. or Texas..what's wrong with Louisiana. Sportsmens's paradise? Sorry folks..just don't see it.

sorry you had a bad trip and spend all that money with these economic times but seriously? did you really need to create a profile on here and slam louisiana? just my opinion but i think that was kinda foolish, just because you didnt have luck doesnt mean you need to get on here and slam it.

Why didn't you catch fish? Was the weather bad? Grand Isle certainly has fish.

Just think how many fish you would have caught if you would have hired a guide for a couple of trips and learned where and when to fish. Fish move with the tides and if you do not what to fish with or when and where to fish it's easy to strike out. Many people catch fish with the help of local folks, you just have to ask. I have never heard of anyone fishing anywhere in South LA for a whole month without catching fish!

A month in Grand Isle and you couldn't catch a fish? Dang, that's not bad luck, that's no luck. If you would have said 2 days, maybe. But a whole month? Really?

Shoulda asked for help before you come on here and bash..We aren't as pretty as Florida but we have some outstanding fishing. Grand Isle will turn on soon.

That's OK. That just means there are that many more fish for those of us that appreciate what this state has to offer.

Granted that this is a transitional month for that area, there are still a lot of fish to be had fishing from Grand Isle during this time. If you really have all of the experience you claim to, then there's no way you could have struck out fishing 23 days. You must have been fishing in Rome's lounge more than you should have, otherwise you're full of it! Go back to Fla. and stay there, and while you're at...keep your mouth shut!

If you can't catch fish in Grand Isle then I would not charter you in Florida.

I seriously doubt your claimed experience given the length of time you claim to have come up with zero ! I agree with the other post comments when they say you should ask for help & not bad mouth another area (State). Most people in Louisiana would go out of their way to help a complete stranger. Regardless, your post is disrespectful & your experience is your own fault given your inability to use basic common sense. Maybe, you should find another hobbie.

You got me thinking about the license issue so I googled the info. You can in fact buy only a salt or fresh water license in FL or TX , however in FL a freshwater license is $17, and a combo salt/fresh is $32.50. In TX a fresh is $30 and a combo salt/fresh is $40. I guess we are truely blessed that a freshwater licenses here in LA is $5.50 and a salt is $9.50. A total of $15 for both salt and fresh. I can understand your frustration with the high cost of out of state licenses. We frequently go to Florida, and I never fish because it cost too much money.(And I'll never catch more fish than Grand Isle).

Common not even a hard head.Guess that explains why he's not a charter capt anymore.Just sayin

Well Ted, my grandpa used to always say... 'Son, if you don't know what you're doing, find somebody that will give you some advice.' When I go to Florida to fish, I go to the marina and just humble myself and tell people that I'm a foreigner looking for help. It has always worked. You won't find friendlier people than LA cajuns. I'm not being rude, but it sounds like you were too proud to ask for help. Fishing here is different than fishing elsewhere. I wonder why all of the premier fishing pros say that there is no better fishing than in LA??? We sincerely invite you to come back, get some local tips and have the time of your life. Look at the videos posted on this website...you can't refute the evidence.

I guess the waters in Florida don't get as cold there as they do here in Louisiana. If you had done your homework you would have learned that the Specks & Reds (if that was what you were fishing for)Move inland until the water starts to warm up. They are in their transistion period now. I know if I were to go to another state to fish and spend that kind of money I would spend a few hundred more for a guide to show me the area first. It takes patience and a little no how also.
My Grandpa taught me most of what I know about fishing and I remember him saying that 'Patience is a companion to Wisdom'.
I guess there are some in Florida that have neither then want to complain.
Does it sound like I have an anger problem?? Maybe.
But I wouldn't have an anger problem if some people would control their stupidity.
Nuff said.

you dont need state of the art anything to catch fish in grand isle. all you need is some dead shrimp, some line, and a hook.

sorry you had a bad trip (im doubting this is a true post, just seems so full of bs).

His post shows me that even with all that experience and equipment he says he has that he is one really bad fisherman , this incident should make him feel right back at home

I don't know if this is a stupid attempt at an April fools joke or just a pile of male Bovine Fecal matter.
But it really doesn't matter. Been fishing that area for a long time and have sent folks down there that have never seen the area, never fished salt water and were limited to fishing from the bank AND THEY CAUGHT FISH!!!
So the OP either has to big an ego to ask for info or its all a pile of (see above).

I am from Alabama and go to Delacroix once or twice a year and not once have I ever had a bad trip. The people at Sweetwater Marina have always when i ask, told me places to try. I rarely ask because the fishing is always good depending on the weather. But please don't bash the good people of Louisiana. Over the years I have had times (vehicle problems)when I needed help and they came through big time. Once, my alternator went out in Chalmette and I had numerous people follow me to the parts store to make sure I got there and then one guy even took me to his house, let me borrow tools, and do the work under his shed because it was coming a bad storm. Just don't go there. Isn't right.

I tend to agree with e-man's first thought, somebody's poor attempt at a stupid April Fools joke. Seriously doubt he'll ever step up. Probably never hear from him again. Only a fool could go to Grand Isle for a month and not catch a fish.

Ted went to the blue spot. Thanks for the head's up on no fish. I'm going to the red spot.

Sounds like Jeremy Wade, but he can actually fish, and he does not need 'State of The Art Electronics and Tackle.'
