Minn Kota

I have a new 80lb thrust 24v Minn Kota Riptide trolling motor on my boat. It has lots of power, and handles my 18' boat well. The problem I am experiencing is with grass. When this motor gets into grass, its stops way too easy. I can lift it out of the water a couple of inches and let it throw the grass out and its all good again. For a motor with as much power as it has, it just seems to get bogged down way too easy. I called Dixie Trolling Motors today and was told they are all like that. Is that the way these new motors are? If so, I want my old motor back!!

prop problems
I run the 101# Riptide on my 22.5, bay and have lots of power too but had noticed it bogging down in grass beds or on lilies... went over and talked to the min kota rep at lasp. Expo a couple months ago and he asked if my prop was banged up..... I said of course from shells and such. Well a prop change was needed.I went with the plastic prop.due to my fishing enviorment.... but if ya fish grass alot which I don't just on occasion '''maybe go metal.so ne-way I paid 80.00 bucks for new prop and gouged it all up on first trip out. And now I just take my grinder to it to clean the edges.......

remember the more unbalanced the prop is the slower it will take to get up to top rpm

Trolling motor
Guys what he's talking about has nothing to do with prop, I ran his motor the first day and the prop was brand new and still is perfect. His digital Minn Kota apparently senses a load such as grass and only runs about 20% power. If u pick it out water and let it sling grass it has phenomenal power. It will go through grass with no problem but if it tries to start with a little grass on blades or sitting in grass it will only allow about 20% power until you clean it. I have about a four year old Motorguide Great White Digital and it does not do that so I don't know if it's a Minn Kota thing or a new safety feature on new motors. It was a pain in the butt constantly picking motor up to start it as we were fishing in a constant grass bed.

motor
make sure your wired 24 volts, seen many of boats wired wrong only getting 12 volts to the motor.

Gaspard may be right.
Check your wirng as Gaspard mentioned. Was talking to a guy at Bobby Lynn's a couple of years ago that had just went from a 12 to 24 volt system and just didn't have any power to his TM. When I glanced down at his wiring; he had his batteries in parallel rather than series; solved his problem. Good luck.
