Need a new reel

Reply

I am looking for a new reel for redfish (28' and below), drum, and specks. I've never caught more than 28' at the spots I fish. My current reels are Okuma Trio 30 and 40s. They are both, yes both with warn gears and strips when reeling. I took them apart and it's pretty unbelievable. I'm sending them for warranty, but I'm in need of another. I would like to keep it under $100 and a spinning reel. Any suggestions?

Obviously not another Okuma. I thought they were of higher quality, but I've been duped.

new reel
I have always purchased shimano reels. I typically get the Sedona or Sahara, and they last a few years (of course, other than a hose off after a trip and occasional oil, I don't do a lot of maintenance). For $80 bucks or so, I figure I'll just use it until it's not smooth anymore and go buy another one. Also have a Penn that I received as a gift that has been very good. It is a Sargus model ($80) and I think the Battle model is also in your price range. On a whim, I just bought a Daiwa Exceler HA ($80), but this weekend will be my first trip with it. Seems like a well built reel. Hope this helps.

Sedona
I have the Sedona 2500 and I'm very happy with them. As stated above I don't see spending alot of money (over $100) on a reel that'll probably get banged around on the boat and in transit. If I can get 3-4 years out of them that's good for me. Also you've got to consider the weight of it and the balance and feel with the rod. Sucks to fish with a combo that isn't comfortable in you hands. Just my .02

Thanks
Thanks for the replies. I did like the feel of the Okumas, but for both of them to wear down so quick really sucks. One reel is 2 years and one is almost 1 year old. I'll check out those reels suggested. I believe some stores have it local.

Sahara
Get the sahara. Alot of places ( Amazon, Bass Pro) are discounting them for around 50-60 dollars. Normally its around 85 bucks. Best reel for the price. If you really want a nice real, a stradic will suffice. I have 4 with one being 6-7 years old. Still smooth and very capable of dragging in big reds and drums. Loaded with 50 lb braid, Ive snapper fished with it.

REELS
I also use the Sahara reels. I also like the Pflueger Presidential seems comparable to Sahara. Bought one at Academy 3 years ago for $80 for reel and IM8 graphite rod.
