Lost Lease

Reply
lost lease this year to a company who was willing to pay alot moreso they could take there customers. Lease holder also hunted with us along with another lease he had. His other lease has been great last few years and ours not to great. Well last year we had a phenominal year and his other lease sucked. So now he wants the lease to himself with the company. Probally stay there till there rich A#$#$ have a bad year then move on to another poor person lease and have them booted. It was good while it lasted. I will start looking very hard towards end of duck season for a lease next year. I guess that is how it goes.

your right its a rich mans sport now, no hard feelings to those who are rich lol. Beast is right its becoming a money thing, the more they can get the more they want. its one year at a time contracts that are the problem. we the poor will only have the reserves to hunt. I am fortunate ro have a small lease that is just ok, but some people cant afford a lease and look at us as the rich lol. best thing for all would be for all property in louisiana to be public state owned and the oil companys would have just the oil rights, but not responsable for accidents on the property. but that will never happen in louisiana lol.

u rite the 1 year least is the problem but the reason they do that is because they know they will get more money in the future!!! really cant blame them??? business is business nothing personal!! i guess when u lease try to get a long term lease if possible??

Yall are right. If i had good land for hunting purposes, i would want to get most money possible. So your right that you cant blame the land owners. It just sucks sometimes. The guy that leases to us has 3 or 4 leases just for ducks not including deer leases. He told me to my face that famous comment that duck hunting is for the rich and i was lucky to have it while i did. In the back of my mind, i agree but i was paying 2200 dollars a year for a membership in a marsh area with 6 other guys. the problem is that in 2 years it will double and in 4 years it will triple. I talked to a landowner in lake arthur who told me he had been leasing his property to a guy for 15 years. 200 acres for 5000 dollars at the end. Another fellow that hunted with the guy turned around and offered the landowner 15000 a year. I know what i would have done so i dont blame the landowner. So from this point forward thats what that land will go for and then the lease next to it and the next and so forth. So mabye i just need to make more money or go on 2 or 3 payed hunts a year, since the last thing i wanna do is find another hobby after doing this since i was 8 years old. Thats life. Sorry guys, im just ranting on blowing off steam.

Ive dealt with the same problem before and it was the best thing that ever happened to me, as far as duck hunting goes. We lost our lease after the oil spill and turned to public land hunting and havent looked back since. It takes a little more work and a lot more scouting but Ive killed a ton more birds on public land then I ever did on our lease. Not saying I wouldnt jump on a good lease if the money was right but until then Im happy with smoking the ducks on land thats free!!
