Gov mike foster passed laws against louisiana workers when he was in office .

If you work in a plant in La. and a pipe falls on you out of the blue , and it dismembers , cripples , or kills you , there is nothing you or your family can do about it . Workmens comp might give you a few dollars but not nearly the amount a person deserves .

I had to learn that the hard way , and a close friend of mine also got burned by steam over 80% of his body . It's disgusting ! Both cases were the plants fault and we both only got a few pennies from Workmens comp . Thanks gov mike foster !

If something happens to you and it is not your fault , you cannot sue the plant or company you are working for . So just remember that when your asked to pull a superman stunt out on the job .

Hope he doesn't burn my house down for this , because he is a true gangster .

I am not familiar with the legislation that you reference. However, it is indisputable that Gov Foster is a strong supporter of Louisianan's Second Amendment rights and proud hunting traditions.

You and I would most likely agree that it is commendable for Governors Jindal and Foster to take a strong stand on behalf of gun owners and sportsmen and women. There are others currently out there taking the opposite position -- openly and publicly opposing your right to keep and bear arms. Another clear reason to vote 'YES on 2!!'

...the only thing I liked about him was he passed a private property law which was:...'Shoot the prowler in a detached building, barn or shed'...but many bitter D.A.'s didn't reconize it for the average Joe ???...anyway, most D.A. fiddlers has to be careful who they pick-on...some play by tune and some play by ear...(funny how that works)???...cheers

Before I get bashed for what I'm about to say, think about what I'm about to say.
Why do we need this legislation? What does this amendment give us that we don't already have? We can carry openly, we can carry concealed (with a permit), we can carry in our vehicles without a permit and many other things most states do NOT allow. What does this law give us that we don't already have? What is the agenda? Let's face it, the NRA has become more and more of a political group than a group with our best interests in mind. I'm just curious as to why this is so important and why it HAS to be passed when it really will not give us something we don't already have.

I agree with you I don't see the purpose of it.
To me it seems like someone is just trying to toot their own horn for political gain

JB if this has mike fosters name on it , there is a reason and a gain behind it . It just might not be a gain for everyone . Remember white lake ? Wasn't that suppose to be public land ?

I'm completely behind keeping our rights with guns . Like you say though , you can beleive somebody will gain something , we'll just have to wait and see who actually gains .

I just think the system is not broken, so why screw with it? I'd like to leave it the way it is now and not have another piece of legislation that a judge could interpret the wrong way...

Plain and simple reason to vote for it. It will make the law abiding citizens right to keep & bear arms even stronger! Louisiana will have the strongest laws for gun owners in this country if this is passed. End of story!

Marrero - How is it weak now? Who/what is telling you you can't have a gun? Carry a gun? This law COULD take the interpretation away from the Legislature and place it in the hands of judges. It might not, but it might.
All I know is that now, I can carry everywhere but a school, bar and hospital. I have no need to carry in those 3 places and neither does anyone else. I just prefer to look at WHY this is being fought for when we already HAVE these rights.

The proposed amendment is historical because it will be the first time a state will recognize the right to keep and bear arms as fundamental and provide the highest legal protections -- strict scrutiny. Strict scrutiny requires state courts to respect the fundamental right to keep and bear arms when reviewing any statute.

The current right to keep and bear arms amendment in the state constitution has been rendered meaningless by the Louisiana courts because they assigned it the lowest level of judicial review (rational basis) -- virtually any future gun control legislation would be deemed constitutional under this level of review. The proposed amendment requires the highest level (strict scrutiny) -- if passed, it would be the first time Louisiana protects the right to keep and bear arms on the same level as your right to free speech and right to vote.

Additionally, the proposed amendment removes the legislature's constitutional authority to ban concealed carry. The removal of this provision will protect law-abiding Louisianan's right to carry.

In addition to my above explanation and information, I will give you the three main reasons for the change:

1.) The Louisiana courts rendered the current right to keep and bear arms amendment meaningless because they assigned it the lowest level of legal protection -- this level of protection would allow virtually any gun control law passed to be deemed constitutional. The proposed amendment fixes this issue by requiring the courts to protect the right to keep and bear arms as a 'fundamental' right and assigning it the highest level of protection -- the same level of protection as your right to free speech and your right to vote.

2.) The Louisiana legislature currently has the express authority to ban the carrying of concealed weapons -- even in your home. The proposed amendment would remove this provision and protect law-abiding Louisianan's right to carry a firearm.

3.) Heller v DC and McDonald v Chicago, the landmark Second Amendment cases, were decided by 5-4 votes. 4 U.S. Supreme Court justices held that you do not have a fundamental individual right to keep and bear arms. The next President will have the opportunity to appoint between 1 and 3 Supreme Court justices and the possibility exists that a future U.S. Supreme Court could easily overturn Heller and McDonald. If this happened, Louisianans would have virtually no protections from the state government -- because your current state-level provision has been rendered meaningless by the courts. The proposed amendment builds an iron-wall around your Second Amendment rights in Louisiana.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Switz - I can't find it anywhere online. And FYI -the paper might be liberal but Macaluso is not. His editorial was centered around 'If it's not broke, don't fix it.'

It is broke and that is why we are attempting to fix it. Please see above links for more information.
