lorman - I do not have one on my gun YET, but I have one on order.
I hunt with some people in Mississippi that run dogs and can only use buckshot. One of those guys sent his gun to someone in Minnesota to have it patterned. He was told to use the Patternmaster Extended Long Range.
I called Patternmaster just yesterday and talked to someone named Steve. He said the Extended Long Range was made for shooting 3 1/2' buckshot. The Long Range for 3' buckshot. The tube is made to grab onto the wadding for just a split second, thus keeping the pattern tight.
My buddy can put 13 of 15 pellets of 00 in a 13' pie plate at 40 yards. Another guy there shoots 000 and he can put all 11 pellets in a 13' pie plate at 40 yards. Both have found Federal Premium to hold a tighter pattern but that will differ with different guns.
As for how long they last, I can't tell you that but these guys have been using them for 4-5 years.
