I had heard that Ascension Parish had bought the boat landing that accesses the Maurepas swamp off of hwy. 22. It had a barroom next to it. Is it now public and open? It's a couple of miles east of the Airline. Thanks.
Theres one on 22 at canal bank on the diversion canal. That's your best bet. Shorter ride and a concrete launch, also there's a check in station right there so you don't have to go searching for the one off the pump canal. Only downfall is its 5 bucks weekdays and 10 on weekends. There's also another off stringer bridge road that's public and free , then the one off 22 at pjs Which is terrible.
A few months ago I saw where the parish was going to purchase the old PJ's landing and upgrade it,etc. After I posted this I called the Recreation Dept. for the parish who will be the caretaker. The person who answered the didn't have any info. but was going to have someone call me back. I will comment if I get a response from them. Thanks.
Hey fishdoctor, I apologize; I did get a response from the parish. Guess I had a 'senior moment' and forgot to reply to the post. Mr. Gautreaux told me that the plans were to have it finished in the first part of 2013 and make more improvements as funds are available. He said that that the canal at the ramp has to be dredged since it was silted in. Maybe someone can comment as to the present condition. Haven't been there in a while.Good luck! Tom
