Recoil is overrated, My 8 year old Nephew did his first deer hunt this year. I took him to the camp over the summer to shoot the .243, the gun kicks but not like the weapons referred to in his thread. My point is that he was so scared of the kick, he could not even put the gun on paper at 50 yards, I was cocerned that he would not hit a deer at all. Well, we hunted the youth weekend and not only did he smoke the big Doe behind the shoulder, I asked him, how was the kick, he responded, 'I didn't feel a thing.' When that deer presents itself to a young hunter, the kick of the gun is the last thing they will think about. Sight the big guns in yourself and let them shoot .22 rifles in the off season to get the fundamentals of shooting down. Put the big guns in their hands for the hunt and I think they should be fine. After all my wife of 110lbs shoots both the 35 wheelen and the 45-70. Good luck hunting.
