The ducks in SW LA have vanished except for the mallards. After doing a little research I believe it is due to what scientists refer to as reverse migration. Early in the season the pintail , teal, and other dabblers come straight to the marsh due to dry conditions in N LA and Arkansas. The feed is abundant and the marsh always holds water. Once enough bad weather pushes through due to cold fronts, fields up north begin to flood and expose new feed for the ducks. The dabblers ride south winds back north prior to a cold front and stay wherever they find feed in the newly flooded fields. In my opinion, the ducks were here and left. That's why you see great reports early season and then after all the bad weather no one is killing anything.
