I bought a brand new godevil 3 days ago. Ran perfect out of water like a dream. When I took it out for the first hunt it would run for about 60 seconds then die every time. It seemed to only die when I put it in the water. Any suggestions?
High speed jets. I agree. Doesn't seem like it should be the case, but that's exactly what it sounds like. If it runs good out of the water, but once you put it in a bind, those jets go to sucking hard. It's amazing, and unfortunate how easy they plug.
Check the oil level in the engine! If you have a low oil level switch on the engine and the level is low, it will die when you lower the engine into the water. Happens to me on a regular basis when I get lazy about checking the oil level.
You can also disconnect the switch and see if the engine operates normally.
They can be real helpful over the phone, give them a call if you can wait. Like others have said it has an auto kill if oil level is below x. Check that first. Can't imagine your carb having issues 5 minutes into its life. Good luck!
Check your fuel fitting connections at the tank and if you have a fuel/water seperator make sure all is tight. The o ring on your tank connection could also be bad.
Bought mine last August, did the EXACT thing....it's actually the cap on the new tanks according to Warren due to emissions etc, changed my cap & I've never had an issue......these guys all make good points however, check O ring in connector, I always carry 2-3 connectors in my boat just in case....worst case, take the cap off and it will run, just gettn starved for fuel.....all the best!!
Appreciate all the help! Problem turned out to be a small leak in the fuel line I didn't catch. The clamps that came on the fuel line were cheap. Replaced them fixed the leak and it runs great. Ran it for around 5 miles today. Hit a large submerged stump and almost broke a rib, thank god for the kill switch
