Ring around the sun

Snapped a cool pic of the sun this morning over Bayou Sauvage marsh heading to the Southshore.

ice
I have seen that a number of times. It is suppose to be caused by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere or something.

Ring around sun/moon
The ring was also around the moon very clearly last night. It is officially due to the moon crossing over Jupiter (i think that's the correct planet). It happens fairly rare. my daughter's science teacher called us last night to go outside and look at it--pretty cool teacher.

Ice Crystals
Mike is definitely, 100% spot on. It is ice crystals in the upper atmosphere and it's called a winter halo. I saw it last year for about a week straight at night. The scary part about this thread is that an above commenter implied that a science teacher thinks it has something to do with Jupiter and the moon, but at least he was correct that Jupiter was right 'next' to the moon two nights ago. I won't even touch the chemtrail thing. lol
