College students in 50M dollar boats

Reply

I am watching the classic and I see college students fishing in a college bass club. Does the school pay for this like football those are 50M dollar boats and gas is 4dollars a gallon at the dock. As a college student we had a boat on top the car and paddled boy sure would have liked a rig like that in college. Not sure but a bass pro must spend a ton on gas, motel and equipment.

College Fishing
Many schools have now formed fishing clubs. LSU for exmaple has one that fishes against other big time schools. Their link is if you'd like to know more about them. I'm not sure who pays for all their expenses though. http://www.lsufishing.com/

The middle class
Doesn't the middle class pay for everything?

Probably the boat belongs to the marine biology class, the fishing tournament class is just borrowing it. Saves the taxpayers some money ya know.

Wonder how many hours the fishing tournament class pupil has to have to graduate?

$50M
$50M means $50 million. I don't think a solid gold bass boat would cost $50 million. Did you mean $50K? Jesus people--proofread before you hit submit.

Not to get into a pissing match but 'M' is the Roman numeral for thousand. In the wire and cable industry for instance 'M' is used. If a customer orders a 1000' of wire or cable their price is per/m. This is also used to prevent mistakes where a 'K' could mean kilometer. So in your world m means million but before you correct explore the facts. Had to jump in because I'm tired of this crap!

K~~~~~M
In the world of $$$$$$ M= million and K= thousand.

$$$$
There is no $50m in this post. Only 50M dollar boat. That is interpreted as a 50 thousand dollar boat. If there was a $$$$ in front you may have been partially right. My original comment was because I'm sick and tired of these clowns that degrade and criticize people's posts. I directed my comment at motor whatever because his comment wasn't needed or necessary!

Set the record straight
Let me clear the air. I really don't care what the 'M' stands for. There was no reason for motormouth to insult captjs post. If the moderators don't stop this crap they can kiss this site goodbye! There are other sites that don't allow this kind of crap and there is no drama.

Sorry Captjs for hijacking your post. I've just had enough.

i am sure the costs of this kind of stuff is included in the cost of tuitions!! thats why they keep increasing the cost of tuitions for all this stupid stuff!!! i thought college is for learning and not for fishing and sports?? i feel sorry for the poor kids that have to work their own way thru college and have to pay xtra for this kind of crap, when all they want is an education!!! capt js, please excuse motorboat, every chance he gets he will try to belittle everyone he can!! he has a masters degree in condesending!! m's, k's, r's, s's, t's, it really dont matter does it?? ok motorboat, lets hear what u got to say!!!

College bass clubs
Just like the pro's, Most of the expenses of the college bass clubs are covered by sponsorships.

nothing like starting small
Started in Texas with a leaking flatboat and trolling motor, catching white bass before class. Then HWY 1, almost same rig. There is nothing like those experiences, so much fun and lots of funny stories. Eventually upgraded of course.

I feel sorry for those starting with expensive boats.

reward for winning the college series
They had a college tournament over several tournaments and the winner gets a spot in the classic. The sponsors let him use the truck and boat for the classic and get it back.

However most of the guys fishing tournaments in the college ranks pay for and fish out of their own boats. These sports bring in no money to the school.

Are you vying for a moderator job or are you just mad? All you've posted about lately is complaints about other posters. How is that adding quality to the site?

Weight of Gold
Think again, Ricky. The weight of gold is not measured on a 16 oz per pound scale. Also, a full scale solid gold bass boat would weigh a lot more than 1960 pounds, so you can't use that weight figure to determine the cost of one. This is fun!

Hmmm #2
Well i went by price per ounce. I found it on the current, US gold stocks. Your second point is valid, however it is obvious that gold would be much denser than fiberglass. I did it as a pound vs pound basis. Dont look that much into it, it was meant as a joke haha

College Anglers
I think the sponsorships pay for the most of it, but i went to a boat show the other day and a Federation angler was trying to raise money for college programs. He was saying the anglers don't get scholarships or school funding like every other sport out there. Basically by being on the team they have an opportunity to use the schools name to fish in higher profile tournaments. I think its a great program and wish it would have been available while i was in school.

ignore option
They need to add a user ignore option like other sites have. That way people could use the ignore option on motorbutt and never have to read what he/she posts!!!!

I hereby decree that from now on if you are to lazy to write out $4,000 dollars etc and instead rely on using roman numerals you will be banned! K is also no longer going to be allowed for consistency sake!

And while I am on the war path, you will also be banned if you say 15 hundred dollars! We are not in Rome and the comma's come after three zero's not two. So say one thousand five hundred.

I am, on my own dime, hiring the guys at Wellcraft to design me a boat made from gold to see how much it would actually weigh! So far they tell me that design changes will have to be made and the issue of what Karat gold is going to be used is still in the works.

hehe all in fun! Carry on.

College Teams
If you happen to catch one of the college tournaments on TV, you will see that the teams fish in a variety of boats, from 18 foot, 80's model TideCrafts to 21 foot brand new Rangers. When they make it to the major tournaments, that's when they get the big pro-type looking boats.

Boats
I actually know a kid that fishes for LSU and they usually use their parents boats. They do several fund raising events to cover all other expenses. I feel that it is a great program and I think the Univesity should help fund it the way it does with other sports.

School
Well CaptJS all this joking aside, I go to Nicholls State down in Thibodeaux and I mainly fish out of either a forty year old 15ft flat with a forty year old 25hp or my kayak gets thrown on top of my car and I paddle around and find some fish.
I wish I could get together a couple guys to put together something like a redfish team or even just a fishing club much less a team with 50 thousand dollar boats.

Club Sports
The fact is if is a CLUB sport the students foot the lion's share of the bill. A good example is the LSU Rowing Club. The dues pay most of the bills and the kids hustle for donations for the rest. They can get a SMALL amount from the school's rec fund. Have no worries, your tax diollars are not paying for a $50M, $50K, or 50 cent bass boat.

I used to go to nicholls a while back. I dont know if you Matt Jeweles. Cant miss him, he is about 6'10'' I used to hang with him a lot when i was down there. Anyways 3-4 years ago, he looked into getting a little team going at nicholls. He bass fishes a lot. Hes a kool guy, be a good fishing partner for you.

Weighing gold
All the figures for the gold boats are off. Gold is weighed in Troy ounces and there is only 12 Troy ounces to the pound. The Troy ounce is slightly heavier than the ounce we are used to but the Troy pound is slightly lighter. Yes I am only being nitpicky to point this out. I have no intentions of doing the math. That being said let's all go fishing and enjoy our great state.
