LAKE MECHANT DEPTH

Reply

I recently started fishing out of the Dularge area and found my way to the Mechant. I launch at Falgoust so I have to pass over Racourcci but I stop at the mouth between that and the Mechant beccause of the depth, is there a channel or something that runs through there because Im unfamiliar with the area and I dont want to hit anything. A few hints to were some fish would be also greatly appreciated. I hear the fishing is great and see all the guides pics on the site, just having trouble finding the fish. Thanks!

Dularge and fish
Howell, Racourrci is shallow but if you stay on step you will be fine. A good rule of thumb is to follow the line of crab traps because if the traps are under water you are good. Mechant on average is about 6ft so you don't have to worry about that. The trout are currently on the coast and in the Gulf at the rigs and Raccoon Island. You can catch trout in Mechant and Sister right now but the majority will be 10 inches. Reds are in Mechant around the banks. Let the wind and water clarity lead you to which bank to fish. Gold spoons and single rig Matrix Shad is all you need. Good luck!

RACCOON ISLAND?
Thanks for the heads up on the Mechant, it had me alittle nervous but I seen the other boats cross it and never had the chance to follow them and figured Id run ground. On raccoon island, tried looking it up, where is that located? Would it be quicker launching at the Marina past Falgoust?

Dularge
You need to Launch at Jugs Marina at the end of the road. Fuel is alot cheaper in your truck than in your boat. I agree with Capt. Miller you need to fish Enstar, the pickets, and Racoon point. Matrix shad is deadly out there right now. Shrimp Creole, Magnito, and Avacado are colors you shouldn't go down there without. Good luck

Good Info
Capt. Travis.....I really did not want to hijack this post, but I could not let this past.

The info your provided to a total stranger was great. So many times on this site, there is a bashing (some needed) of rogue Captains. I do not know you, but you and others, like Capt. Marty Lacoste, Capt. Bob Gougues, etc, have always been willing to share your knowledge and experience.

I do not fish the area you mentioned, but I thought to willingness to help was awesome.
