Public Land to Hog hunt

Reply
Are there any public lands, not WMAs, that you can go and bow hunt pigs?

here we go, i hunted Wma's for many years, killed more hogs on wma's than any where else. so to answer your question if you don't want wma's but want public then there is only federal land, like kitchasie national forest land, way less piggies.

I figured that. I cannot hunt on WMAs unless a season is open and I do not want to interfere with deer season. It would be nice to have a place you could go to anytime just to kill a hog, but I guess I will keep looking around

Thousands of acres of state land in the basin that can be hunted for hogs year round.

tboy i'm not to sure about what your saying, pamphlet clearly says hog hunting on private land can be done year round, say's no mention of government land to seasonal only, for the public it starts oct 1 and ends last day of febuary.

I called the Louisiana Wildlife department and the person that answered said that hunting on WMAs is during season only. I asked specifically about Loggy Bayou near South Bossier

The stste land that I speak of is not part of a WMA. It is simply owned by the state and open to the public for hunting. Has a very different set of regulations than WMA's, main two being it's legal to bait for deer and dogs can be run during that portion of deer season.

Is there a place where public lands are posted so I can look for a place to hunt? I see a lot of land around here that is wooded, and appears to be state land and not in use.

Holders of a valid Louisiana hunting license may take coyotes, feral hogs where legal and armadillos year round during legal daylight shooting hours

This is off the Web site.

Night time:
On private property, the landowner, or his lessee or agent with written permission and the landowner’s contact information in his possession, may take outlaw quadrupeds (coyotes, armadillos and feral hogs), nutria or beaver during the nighttime hours from one-half hour after official sunset on the last day of February to one-half hour after official sunset the last day of August of that same year.

I think you are confusing Night time season vs. daytime.

You are correct Bossier B. You can shoot pigs during daylight hours any day of the year on land that isn't a WMA. To look for state land look at the tax assessor's web site in the parish that you want to hunt in. They have maps that will show what is state land. Keep in mind that there will surely be people that think it's their's. Be nice if you run into one. Don't back down, but don't pick a fight either.
