Trailer Tire wear issues

Reply
My trailer is really eating up the outside edges of the tires.
Here's the Situation: BayStealth 1888 CC Bayboat Yamaha 115 4 stroke Single Axle galv. trailer
Approximate Tow Weight...3500 +/- lbs
Tire size 205/75 R 14 bias ply
I'm pushing the max load on these I think!
I run them at the max air pressure (50 psi) and I am still wearing the outside tread down before the middle .
Would a radial tire alleviate this problem?
If not what should I do? Thanks!

Try to decrease as much weight in your boat when trailering. Put your fish chest, tackle box, beer chest, etc. in the back of your truck when going down the road. This helps to keep your axle from bowing, which causes the outside of your tires to wear out first. After you try new tires and decreasing your weight you may have to go to a trailer place to get a heavier duty axle so that it can tolerate more weight

Thanks Gas I may have not been clear it is the inside and outside edges of the tires..looks to me to like under inflation but like I said 50 psi max air in them and the still wear the inside/outside edges.

This forum has the worst text editor I keep getting these weird symbols in the message that I din't put there!

I have the same boat as yours and if I run regular trailer tires, it will also wear unevenly. Think its a lot of weight for a single axle. I had switched to light truck tires about 2 years ago and dont have that problem anymore. The trailer does sit alittle lower since I only have 36 lbs on the tires but it pulls alot better.

What year is your baystealth? I really love mine but they went out of business and I have tried to find some trim pieces for it and have a hell of a time. Specifically the trim around the gas cap/filler

2004. Its a great boat to fish the marshes. Just a little on the heavy side which is why I think it causes so much pressure on a single axle trailer.

Mine is 2002 and it is great for the marsh but I've also taken it about 15 miles offshore....on a calm day!

Good Fishing To You!

Yes Ive gone out of venice and empire couple of times. Just dont run that thing deep into a mud flat cause it ain't coming out easily. Know this far too well.
