Best mineral or salt lick

Looking to see what your favorite and most productive mineral or salt lick is. I haven't found 1 that I love that I can buy locally that works great. One or two that work good I can order but they are expensive plus you have to pay shipping and when you have 6 sites it gets expensive. Looking for the best lick for the best price.

protein blocks
These also have apple, persimmon, etc. flavoring to attract deer, but not the ones with corn, they'll eat them right up unless you want it as attractant, but blocks without it last longer.

Black Magic
I buy bags of trace minerals from the
Madison county Co-Op and mix some Evolved Habitats Black Magic with it. It smells so good I'd eat it. I think it costs me about 11 dollars per site and I replenish it twice a year usually. Two weeks ago they looked like hog wallows they were being used so much.

With all respect, loupgarou, if your deer will eat that stuff up as you say, that just shows your deer are very nutritionaly stressed. Prolly have a late rut and lots shorthorn spikes and very seldom see more than a 16in. 8pt. killed in the area.

Not hardly!
Our deer rut late December to early January and we have lots of deer numbers and size. We are a 570 acres lease that is basically contained inside of a 5000 acre lease. The lease around us shoots 20 inch main beam and killed about 120 does last year and 12 bucks all of which scored over 140in. We killed 6 bucks, 4 were over 130in and 11 does. We kill 140 pound does regularly and bucks average around 190 pounds. We also have 80 acres of soybean being farmed on our lease. If deer aren't hammering a lick right now either you ain't got it the right place or your using the wrong blend. Salt limits their intake so if you are using a supplement high in sodium you won't see much usage.

Having soybeans certainly changes the equation, but if they don't need extra nutients, why are they eating it? If u feed them protein pellets within 2 weeks they will quit eating dirt. One doe per 50 acres and one buck per 480 acres is not very good, esp. on a management plan. I can double the amount of bucks ya'll are killing in two years if you would like to know how.

The best is hands down THE ROCK. I also put out trace mineral blocks. You have to bury them with just the top showing.
