CROSSBOW BROADHEADS

Reply
I just picked up a recurve 175# crossbow. It came with short aluminum bolts and said that carbon 20' bolt with 100gr broadheads are recommended for hunting. I got a few carbon bolts and was wondering what makes the broadheads different for crossbows. I have plenty broadheads that I use for my compound bow and wondered if I could just use them on the X bow bolts? The x bow supposedly shoots at 240FPS, so, its not rocket fast. Any advice would be appreciated.

A lot of people say they dont recomend useing them, I myself personaly have use regular Rage as well as Grand Reapers an never once have had a fell, But I myself mainly shoot compound bows so im sure there maybe some people out there that has had fails in the past due to useing them alot more.

I shoot 150 grain Magnus Stingers on my recurve bow, although this year I am dropping to 125 grain. I am going to shoot them in my finger compound I set up for this season too.

In my Parker Hornet Extreme xbow, I shoot the same 150 grain Magnus Stingers. Right now I am 3 and zero on kills and all of them piled up in sight. Quite a few more could have been too but I let a lot walk. I think the xbow is just another tool in the arsenal, but with experience I can say it is easy & not much of a challenge- nevertheless, mine will occasionally be out on the hunt. I'm going to give the finger shooting bows more time this year.

As far as heads, just my opinion- not meant to start a heated debate, I would stick strictly to a good fixed head, and concentrate on keeping them very sharp. Even semi daily while at the camp, humidity alone will round those microscopic keen edges.

I agree with lamplighter. you want a sharp fixed broad head. I shoot the monotec G5. They are awesome. I have seen many 200-250 lb deer go down with these broad heads and you reuse them. The blades stay sharp and are strong they don't bend. just my opinion. JUST NO MECHANICAL.. A cross bow has to much kinetic energy for those, most open upon deployment from the crossbow.

Don't listen to the most of these comments >>> I have compound bows but I now just Hunt with my Excalibur ,,Phoenix model 175 pound xbow it smokes the hogs and deer... Last year I heard of 3 hogs shot with compound bow which were lost ,,, Every hog I have shot drop 20 feet.. in fact the last I shot was shot as she was running past my stand ..the arrow hit a little far back but she spun and ran 20 feet and dropped. when I walked over to the pig the arrow past through cutting 4 ribs on both sides and all her guts where hanging out the entrance side of the pig !!!! Now I have shot tons of deer/Hogs with compounds and have NEVER seen that before!! I use the bow I mentioned above but I use Fast Flight Flemish twist sting.. 300ft sec. with the new rage 'Yellow' for a 2.3' cutting hole going in and it makes a 5' hole coming out devastating NO ANIMAL CAN LIVE WITH A HOLE LIKE THAT!!!! I have shot Hogs and deer with the red rage which work fine but they tend to open while in the bow if you just tap them so I switched to the new version :Yellow which stays closed and gives me .3 more longer blade!! And yes worth every Penny !!! My Hunting Bud used fixed blades and lost Hogs Deer every year until he bit the bullet and bought the new Rage 'yellow version and he has not lost a animal yet NO FIXED BLADE CAN COMPARE!!! The twist sting can be twisted to factory line ' mark' yes a fixed mark on the where the string crosses the extender of the xbow SO I can sight the bow in and when the sting starches I us mu string changing rope and twist the string until it lines with the mark !! so it stays true to the scope !! and is now sighted back in for perfect accuracy. I can hit a dime at 30-40 yards and a one inch circle at 50 yards.. Question !! Can you ''''BOYS''' with those fancy compounds Do That ???? I would like to see that !!! GO RAGE.. I always hear people say that don't do well hitting Bone ! Front shoulders !! I say LEARN to shoot deer with a bow first before Hunting !!! Its not a Rifle ''''ITS A BOW''' Your target is the Lungs which is Behind the front shoulder NOT BONE SHOULDERS!!!! Easy its the large brown area of the deer !!! Learn your target before hunting GOOD LUCK with your new toy !!! What make is it ????

I recommend going online to utube and type in Rage Broadhead DEER kills and watch the fun!!! God In a few videos you can see the Blood squirting out the hole from the tree stand !! Through the camera !!! and all kills fall with in camera range ! now that is cool with a bow !!!!no more tracking when you use Rage!!!
