how to lock a battery

Reply
Anybody got a suggestion for locking a cranking battery on a boat to keep it from being stolen? We got a pontoon boat at our camp that we use to cross our atv's with and we have to take it off and lock it up after each time we use it so it doesn't get stolen. I've been looking on the web and haven't seen anything.

If you have access to a welder and a cutting torch you can cut a bike U style lock in half and add 1/2' x 1-1/2' flat bar stock and fab something to lock it down. remember no lock will keep a true thief from stealing it.

There isn't much you can do to guarantee it will be there if they want it bad enough, most thieves carry bolt cutters with them which will cut almost all locks and hasp. Another idea might be to put a short set of leads on your battery and put a heavy guage 220 plug on it and receptacle on motor side leads or any other type of heavy duty plug u have access to to. This way when u show up you know you have a battery to start your rig and it will only take ten seconds to hook up. Just a thought

Do a query on the internet to see what some people use to lock batteries onto their travel trailers. One of these may suit your needs
