Afternoon hunt

Reply

Made an afternoon hunt with my girlfriend and her 4yr old son, while walking them to the stand I caught a glimpse of movement not even 30yards in front of us and it was a male bobcat about 25-30lbs walking straight at us, never saw us so I shot and killed him, and then while sitting on a gas pipeline right of way I saw a small bobcat chase off a group of turkeys off the field about 200yards from me, so I shot the 2nd bobcat in the head instead of taking a chance of wounding it and running off and not being able to find it, about 5pm I saw a huge brown cat that stood 3-4ft off the ground that was easily over 100lbs and had a tail that was close to 4ft long with a big bushy like black tip and come to find out several other members have pics of a few different of what appears to be panthers on the lease, lease is in Lumberton Ms, does anyone know the laws on these big cats if there fair game or protected ?

or cougar, puma, mountain lion, whatever you want to call them, in the southeast I guaranty you they're protected. Good thing you didn't shoot it. Yes, they do kill and eat deer, but it does show that you have a prime, healthy habitat on your lease.

couger/panther
Louisiana has a 250000 dollar fine for shooting one but they say we don't have them so they kinda don't make a lot of sense.

1. LDWF does not say that their are no cougars in La.! They say there are only a few cougars that occasionally enter the state searching for a home and almost always they are males.

2. This is what i hate about La and Miss wildlife departments. You can't find the information on some species.

I tried for a few minutes to see if you had violated the law by shooting two bobcats in one day. Well I can't find anything on when you can or can't shoot bobcats and can't find out if their is a daily limit. I was thinking it was just one allowed per day... maybe one per season.

All I have found is that you can hunt them at night blah blah blah, but that is it. Will search some more.

my rant
'The hunting of predatory animals shall be restricted to the open seasons for hunting any game animal or bird, using only the firearms, ammunition, primitive weapon or archery equipment legal for use during that open season. Landowners, agricultural leaseholders or their designated agents may take predatory animals year-round on lands owned or leased by them.'

Legal I guess. This is what I found just now. Always makes me upset that they can't simply put our regualtions for bobcats and hogs that give dates and bag limits etc. Why must they make you hunt through all the seasons for all the other animals to see what you can shoot one with. I know I know... because they are lazy.

Does that mean you can hunt them during dove season with a shotgun only... or is their some other season open that you can use another weapon on? How many can be taken. Unlimited? Why not say no limit? I shouldn't have to read ever rule on every animal to know what is legal to hunt bobcats. Ridiculous!

I am reading the Mississippi hunting pamphlet now, and it says bobcats maybe hunted for sport or pelt from November 1st to February 28th with any legal firearm and there is no daily bag limit.

ALL of you Internet Game Wardens are WRONG, except the guy that pointed out the fact that he is hunting out of state so louisiana laws do not apply, you people need to familiarize yourselves before you try to tell some one else they did wrong, especially a member of the site that is supposed to be able to call himself a field reporter, how can you be a field reporter if you don't even know the rules of being in the field hahahahahaha

page 26 of the hunting book that every one should have at least one copy clearly states that you must have a big game license to take a bobcat any time, or a trapping license during trapping season, and you are limited to one bobcat per calender year, and that is in louisiana i don't have a clue about mississippi,

now i am sure my post will be removed or edited cause i am a ''TROUBLEMAKER'' and i picked on a las staff member, maybe it is because i am upset that i didn't kill any deer this past weekend or maybe it is cause i don't like to see some one try to tell some one they did wrong and are ignorant about the subject they are preaching, but i am done go get a FREE HUNTING PAMPHLET AND READ THE THING FRONT TO BACK, most of it is clearly stated

Hey tuff you are so wrong on this. Go back and read my post. I never said he did anything illegal. I said I wasn't sure of the laws, thinking the limit was one per day. So I did a scant amount of research and didn't turn up an answer.

I stated as much and pointed out one of my pet peeves with game laws that are written so that they aren't all in one place and require you to know what is legal to hunt turkeys with if you happen to be hunting during turkey season. Which also means you need to know the dates for turkey season. It is rediculous.

Can you post a link to that page. Still don't see that anywhere. Search engines just bring me to the wrong stuff and the search on the Mississippi website brings up one page for a search on its search engine that is just for trapping.
