On the cold, wet and foggy morning of December 8, 2013, me and my cousin Josh Lagarde, decided it would be a nice morning to hunt. He decided to take the first deer stand, as I walked another 40 minutes down the road to my lock-on stand. Just as I’m about to climb the tree, he sends me a text “you should go hunt my box stand, I just looked at the radar and it’s about to rain.” So I decided to walk 20 minutes back up the road to take shelter in his box stand, which had little to no deer movement yet this year. I just made it to the stand before the rain, and not even 30 minutes later, I see moose like antlers moving in the tall marsh grass. The deer finally came out on a ridge, when all I could do was smile before I took him down, knowing that this same scenario happened last year in the same place. I took down a 200 pound 9 point from his stand, which is now hanging in my living room. Even though he was excited as I was, I do believe he will be hunting his own stand for the rest of the season!
