where are the ducks?

Reply
I work on the river running a pushboat at major grain elevators. Last year they had thousands of dogris and a few redheads , wood ducks & mallards hanging around everyday from the 1st split till after the season was over. This year NOTHING, that should have been an indicator that this season wasn't going to be a banner year, Last year they few back & forth all day long feeding. The feed is there, where are the birds?

I watch the big amounts of sitting water across the US every season. I noticed that the mass amounts of birds follow that path during migration. Most of the greysnwe normally get, along with other ducks, are just to the west of us. Where theres a lot of water and alongside the 'icepack'. Combined with the slowing down of migrations through many more ag fields now and hunters working to keep ducks in their area, they don't show up until after the season is over. Wait until February/ March and see the amount of ducks around. Intense hunting pressure in our flyway pushes the few ducks we have right on out. Just a theory, too many factors!!
