CAMP INSURANCE RIP OFF

Reply
Just our homeowners renewal in the mail, and of course its going up $2200.That now makes it $6743
a year. that will make it more than 80% of our yearly budget. Have to believe La citizen ins is trying to overprice every one so they no longer carry ins. WE will not pay this amount and will go the route of self insurance fund. would like to know what other camp owners are doing. by the way 5 years ago when we built it was $2800 that with a 10k dollar deductable

Think about making a business out of the camp, guide fishing/hunting. May not be able to write off 100%, but every little bit helps.

I retired from business and opened a guide business for 5years.It was fun and you are correct good tax right off but you better love fishing and people. You need insurance, internet, phone, boat and fishing equipment expense and everyone needs to deal with the public one time they don't treat you equipment like you do. PS Just try to get someone to work on a camp or boat in an area like Lafitte. PS you also better pay some one to fill out the paper work to make you business a LLC to protect your family assets.

I had Southern Fidelity at a decent price, about $2,300 a year for $150,000 hazard and $250,000 flood but they dropped me at renewal time. I will not pay the stupid prices that La. Citizens wants. I would rather bank a couple thousand each year and hope for the best. Really flood ins. is all you need. If your camp get's destroyed, it will likely be from a hurricane.
