HOG HUNTING PRWMA

IF YOU ARE STILL HUNTING FOR HOGS IN PRWMA OR ANY OTHER WMA, AND A BUNCH OF DOGS RUN A HOG RIGHT UP ON YOU, WOULD SHOOT THAT HOG ?
IF YOU SHOOT AND KILL THE HOG WHO IT BELONGS TO. THE SHOOTER OR THE DOG HUNTERS?
I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR WHAT EVERYONE HAS TO SAY.
THANKS

Shooter
I believe it would go to the shooter even though the owner of the dogs normally think otherwise.

Hogs at Pearl
The hog goes to the hunter that killed it. The dog hunters think they own them once they run it but not so. If they would get in there and hunt with their dogs instead of sitting on roads with gps units they may kill a few. There are some good dog hog hunters and I met some the other day hunting their little feist and they had their first hog in about 15 mins. They had a group running last week from road, their dogs were eating up a young hog 400 yards from me. After an hour of the hog squealing I went put it out its misery. It was a 60 lber and dogs had eaten its face off, both ears, it's eyes and exposed part of its brain and had eaten half of one rear leg. Responsible party was sitting on road 400 yards opposite side of hog from me. I gave the hog to another hunter as I already had plenty. I don't think this should be allowed and wish some enforcement would take place.

Dog Hunters
I've been running hog dogs for over 35 years and if u killed a hog ahead of my dogs i would be more than happy to let you have it and I would even help u get it out of the woods. I used to hunt 3 days a week and most of the hog hunters I know keep their freezers full year round and only hunt the refuges in February just to hunt somewhere new and not for the meat.

hog dogs
I have not met a bad group of hog dog hunters. All have been friendly and out there to work their dogs. All the hogs that they do kill seem to be larger hogs and the reason why is I believe if the dogs get on a big hog it will bay up quick and fight the dogs which are close to the dog hunters. A few years back I was deep in the woods and I could hear the dogs chasing and coming in my direction. The dogs caught the 40lb pig and was chewing him up. I was at least two hundred yards from this, so I began making my way through the thick woods towards the dogs. When I got there, two dogs were holding on to the pig, I shot the pig in the ribs, which the dogs let go immediately, then I put one behind the ear and put the hog down for good. Never did I hear anyone making their way to the catch site. The dogs left me and went back hunting again. I got the hog out and enjoyed my harvest. I don't think they would have been mad, after all, it seems that they want those big boars, more bragging rights. I'm looking for tender meat, so the 40lber suited me well.

This year a guy shot a large big tusk boar that the dogs were chasing, the hog guys wished the hunter would have let the dogs catch that big boar, but they were understanding. They did ask if they could have the head, the guy that shot the hog was more than happy to give it to them, they wanted those bragging rights.

So a hunter got some meat and the hog dog guys got a huge tusked boar's head, everyone was happy.

Hopefully this helps.

Hogs or deer doesn't matter. Whoever shot the animal is its new owner. Period.

I think it is stupid to shoot a hog in someone else's bay, it's one thing to shoot a hog running from dogs but to go up to a bayed hog and shoot it aint right. Are you going to be responsible when you kill someone's dog?? And just because someone aint there right away doesn't mean they are not coming. Just think about before you go getting your tender meat
