Trail Cam Vandalized (help fix)

Reply
Ok need a little help. Some trespassers vandalized my bushnel trail cam. The stole one battery and pulled the wires from the battery bank to the camera. Figured it would be an easy fix.

First try at fixing it failed. wires going to batteries was pulled off and broken. So I reconnected some of my own wire to the batteries and have the proper voltage at the end of my new wires. But when I TRY to hook them up to the old wires coming from the camera I don't get any power. I hooked up my multimeter to the camera and with it turned on I can't establish continuity. Should I be able to establish continuity on a bushnell trail cam?

Here is the confusing part! The wires they used are extremely small. I can't get continuity by touching on bare wire one inch apart on the wire that leads to the camera. I am confused about that! These wires are much smaller than speaker wire. Any ideas/thoughts?

Oh and the camera was cable locked to the tree. So stealing the camera would have been difficult. But you can open it up. Card not stolen.

I have the BTC's. That's a small 2 conductor cable. Best to repair with solder and heat shrink rather than butt splices. Sounds like you need to check your meter. Short your probe tips together before testing. Good luck.

The meter is good I checked it on a number of things. Thanks for the info. I hope the wires leading into the camera weren't pulled loose in there. The feel secure but if one was screwed up you wouldn't be able to tell.

Should get dc voltage from battery pack. Batteries in series. Four batteries about 6.5 volts.
Wires are soldered to circuit board inside. Need jeweler's phillip screwdriver to get into it. Take your time; micro components inside! Good luck.

Don't have cam nearby but I think there is an external battery jack that you may consider using.

Awesome, thanks I had forgotten about the external power source option!
