Black squirrels aren't rare in Louisiana. In my time of hunting I've shot 18 all together. The one you have here is actually a black cat squirrel which is more uncommon since most of the black ones are fox squirrels . Up by Angola is the mecca of black squirrels. From what I've seen they have three color phases, you have the peppered black ones with hues of gray red and black in the fur, then you have the pumpkin seed ones that are peppered with a dark dark pumpkin colored stomach, then you have the all jet black ones. You have a jet black one which you should have mounted. Out of 18 only one was jet black they're mostly peppered. Two years ago i went and shot 5 , 3 of which were black. heard stories of shooting 8 and 6 were black but be careful you can wipe an area out quickly if you hunt it hard enough. Im after the white/beige one!! I know where one is and i want to mount it!!! Now i have the fever looks like this dude here will be inn the woods in the morning after my three!!
