KAYAK FISHING BUDDY

Should be selling my boat this week and going to buy a hobie pro angler. Will be my first time in a kayak but not my first time fishing. I fish grand isle , fouchon , hopedale , causeway , wherever for reds , trout , and flounder. Would like to find a few people that have experience in kayaks and know a few spots. Think I'm going with the 12' pro angler. Super nice and look pretty comfortable. Any advice would be appreciated. Call or text me to hook up for a trip Thank u.

I recently bought my first kayak. A PA-14. I can't compare it to other yaks but the 4 or 5 people I talked to who had other yaks and went to the PA said it was a great decsion. No real complaints here about the 14 other than the weight. But with a little patience and logic its not really hard to haul or launch. Been catching a few here and there but nothing really worth bragging about yet! If ya wanna plan a trip shoot me an email sometime! Good luck!
Yes- nice site Jeff- very informative.

Thank y'all but I have a single cab ford ranger and a short bed. I'm afraid if I get a 14 ft that it will stick to far out the back of my truck ..Anysuggestions. ? Maybe there's a place I can rent a pro angler from for a day to try the different sizes out. ? Soon as I get my yak I will Deff email all of u for a trip. Would like to make a trip to tressels or causeway for some big trout in a yak.

Not to mention
Not to mention I'm 6'5' and weight 180. But still I'm pretty tall. So maybe I may have to go with a 14. I'd have to look at them in person too though

Small truck issues
Got a 14' ocean kayak. Use the bed extender from harbor freight. Google bed extender and look at images, plenty of people use them foe pa 14

Massey's demo
If you're not sure about it. You can rent the PA from Massey's in NOLA for $50 for the weekend. It's a lot of boat. Have you tried the Outback? Once you get that yak, you'll be hooked. I go out every chance I get.

Yeah I herd they rent. That is cheap I guess. I will get a bed extended I allready checked them out. No never been in a outback. I got a pelican kayak from academy a long time ago a tried it. But got rid of it. I think the marina right before the fouchon toll bridge rents them out too. I may have to rent one first Thanks for the info.

Rent
If you rent a yak from Massey’s and then buy from them, the cost of the rental will be deducted from your purchase.

Try out the PA14. It’s only $100 more and you get a bunch more room and storage.

With a bed extender, hauling in your truck would not be a problem.

The 12 and the 14 are both great, but I prefer the 14.

The Outback is also a really good kayak. I have both. Your best bet is always to try before you buy to see which model will fit your needs best.

Good luck.

Ford Ranger
I too have a ranger; splash model none the less, so an even shorter bed. I just put the tailgate down and flag the end of my 14 footer and call it a wrap. Just ratchet-strap it forward and then strap the front downward so it can't bounce up and call it a day. Remember, if you shake the yak and your truck shakes too, it's not going anywhere

Thank y'all
For the info Yeah I may rent from masseys and go with a 14. Sounds good. Whenever I get it I will deffenitaly try to get a trip with someone. I'll keep in touch.

Safety Chain
I have an f150 and just drop the tailgate down too, but I always run a cable leash through the handle in the front and attach to the bed. Can't be too careful. A yak on the highway would be real bad.

Going Saturday
Renting one from masseys Saturday going Saturday evening with a rented pro angler going to fish by bridgeside and sleep there and Sunday morning hit the marshes again along la 1 and make my way back out at some of my spots on the way back to Kenner. Let me know if anyone will be out there

Time Out
Gotta work this w/e so won't be there!
Just food for thought- since ya kinda new (as I am)- I would hold off on Caminada Pass for now. Went there once and the tide/currents were pretty rough. Not trying to scare ya- but be cautious. I haven't tried the marshes along hwy 1 but I am itching too. Good luck but please start off easy!

Pro angler
I have a pa14 and a truck with a six foot bed. I bought a bed extender for the truck and have had no problems loading or launching my pa14. You can get them from eBay or Amazon. Think I payed around $80.
