Lifetime License

I am going to buy my grandson a lifetime license. He is 8 years old. He was born in Ms. but has lived here, in La., since he was 2. I can go up to Quail Drive in BR to apply for it. But what I would like to know is what kind of documentation will I need to get it and how do they accept payment? I'd like to get it on the first trip! Thanks for any help. Tom

Follow instructions on application, but do not know how you have him setup as aresident.

Thanks for the reply. That's my concern; proving he is a resident. Birth Cert. has Ms. on it.

Im sure he goes to school, so use records from the school.

Thanks hobbit. Will ask his mom to see if can get something from the school. Will call ldwf next week to see if they will accept that as proof of residency. Good luck!

There is a huge difference in a resident of Lousisiana and a native of Louisiana. As long as the parents are legal residents you and the child can obtain a resident lifetime license.

A legal resident is defined as:

Lifetime licenses are available
from the Baton Rouge office only. Allow
three weeks processing time. Applicants
are required to have lived in Louisiana for
the immediate twelve months prior to
making application to qualify for resident
rates. Mandatory documents required
with application are a valid LA driver's
license issued a minimum of 12 months
and one of the following:
1. Louisiana voter's registration card
2. Louisiana vehicle registration or
3. Two previous year's state tax filing,
stamped by Department of Revenue
and Taxation.

This is copied and pasted directly from wildlife and fisheries louisiana hunting regulations page 4

It's well worth the money

Being he his 8yrs old it will only cost you $300

I bought both my son and my daughter one before they turned 4yrs old and it was only $200

Hope this helps

Not sure as a grand parent that you will be able to apply for this license for him unless you have an affidavid showing legal guardianship.

You may need his parents to fill out the actual application and youpay for it.

The only things I brought were his birth certificate and social security card

The birth certificate will prove who the parents are and the parents will need to fulfill the documentation requirements of the resident.

My brother bought my son a lifetime license for Christmas one year. A few things I'd like to mention about my experience. He was issued a coupon or card stating that it was good for a lifetime license. That way it could be given as a gift without having to go through the whole process. Your gandson will also need proof of a hunter's ed safety course in order to get the license. The class that I took with my son told us that a person under the age of 10 could take the course but they would not be given the certificate. A child has to be at least 10 years old at the time they take the course to recieve a valid hunter's safety card. Without the card you won't get the license. My suggestion to you is if you really want to get it for him, give him the voucher coupon. Go take a safety course even though he isn't 10 (because it's a good course). When he turns 10, go re take the course then bring the certified course completion card to the main office of LAWF and they will issue you the lifetime license. My son just turned 16, and it's a nice thing that he doesn't have to get anything but a fed duck stamp. Even though your grandson isn't 10 yet, I would recommend buying the license, just in case it goes up between now and then in cost. Good luck! Good job being a great grandparent!

I appreciate all the good info. I did not know you needed a valid hunter ed. card for it. Tried to call today, but line has been busy. Need to see what proof of residency would suffice for an 8 year old. Both parents are La. residents. Will post when I find out. Thanks again.

You can purchase him the lifetime license at any age. They will issue a certificate stating the purchase. They will not issue an actual hard card until he completes the hunter's ed course and a hunter's ed card is presented to them.

You can purchase the license at any age

I bought both of my kids licenses before they turned 4yrs old.

White boots is correct in that your grandson cannot get the hunter ed card until he is 10yrs old

Thanks rwray. Been calling but can't get through to license people; may have taken the week off! I need to find out what I need as far as documentation for him since he was born in Ms. Hate to make a trip to BR without the proper papers.

Give the office a call on Quail Drive, ask for the janitor. He can't know any less than the people that answer the phones.

good luck getting thru, they think they are off every week and pretty much they are!! if Jindal wants to save money, he could layoff everyone in that office but one and the same amount of work will get done!!!

I guarantee you the janitor knows more than anyone else in that office and is the only person that cares and works in that office but sadly gets paid a lot less!!! aint it ashame!!! fire everybody but the janitor!!!! im serious!!!

I still can get through to them. I wish there was an option on their phone system for the JANITOR! 'Press 4 for the Janitor'!

I think they call it a lifetime license because it takes a lifetime to get it in certain situations!!! aint it ridiculous???

Could you explain what documents you needed???
Reply
Bullcoon, fill out the application. You can print it from the website. Be sure and include their SS #.
You will need a photocopy of each parent's Driver's license. I brought their original birth certificates. They made a copy of it and gave me the original back.
They will explain to you about the hunter ed. course requirement.
I think you can mail all this if you wish. I live in Prairieville and had to go to BR for other business anyway.
I paid with a check but they will accept cash. Good luck!
