My brother bought my son a lifetime license for Christmas one year. A few things I'd like to mention about my experience. He was issued a coupon or card stating that it was good for a lifetime license. That way it could be given as a gift without having to go through the whole process. Your gandson will also need proof of a hunter's ed safety course in order to get the license. The class that I took with my son told us that a person under the age of 10 could take the course but they would not be given the certificate. A child has to be at least 10 years old at the time they take the course to recieve a valid hunter's safety card. Without the card you won't get the license. My suggestion to you is if you really want to get it for him, give him the voucher coupon. Go take a safety course even though he isn't 10 (because it's a good course). When he turns 10, go re take the course then bring the certified course completion card to the main office of LAWF and they will issue you the lifetime license. My son just turned 16, and it's a nice thing that he doesn't have to get anything but a fed duck stamp. Even though your grandson isn't 10 yet, I would recommend buying the license, just in case it goes up between now and then in cost. Good luck! Good job being a great grandparent!
