St. Helena Parish

Hey guys, I recently decided to start hunting in St. Helena Parish this year near Grangeville. Have Any of you all had any luck in this area/Greensburg area in the past few years? I haven't hunted out here in about 9 years (was on private land in ms until it was sold). Wanted some info if the hunting has gotten any better or what to expect now. Also I was given an opportunity to join a club in Chipola, which is northwest of Greensburg close to the Mississippi line. Anyone Know anything about that area? Any info or comments are appreciated thanks.

I've hunted just north of the town of Greensburg for the past ten years or so. The deer herd (at least where we're at) isn't what it was when I started. There's still good hunting and I hope the logging work they've done by us the past couple years helps. But there was a time when it was nothing to see deer every trip to the stand and now you may not see one in a weekend. My brother was in a club which sounds a lot like where your looking and got out and joined by us a few years ago. If you can, make a guest hunt or two and see how it looks. The place he was at had a few clubs which shared a main road, not sure how the borders were defined.

Thanks for your response Trigger, The club where I'm at in Grangeville is off of hwy 37 by powers store. The club has killed a few decent deer over the past few years its looked like (from pictures) but I wasn't sure of how the herd was doing in St. Helena in general. My dad used to hunt in Grangeville/Pine Grove years ago and used to see deer almost every hunt he used to say. But like you said its seemed to have gone down in the last few years, they did a lot of logging by us the past year so hopefully that helps us.

I hunt in the same area as you do. I am in graingsville hunting club. I hunt the power line right down from the power country store. I have the big box stand you can see when you pass by. The deer heard he is starting to pick backup here. The club is now 8pt or 8pt on one side. Most of the time we see deer in my food plots or just crossing. This year is slowed down alot. I have been out here since Friday after Thanksgiving and only seen 3 deer. Most all the move meant is at night. The tracks and cameras tell me there is good deer here, its just waiting them out.
