Deer feed! Opinion toll on best feed

Reply
Years of research I've noticed something , specially since I started using deer cams! Older deer prefer ricebran over corn. It's not only ricebran but I've noticed with some of the other feed also. I'm thinking it's softer, doesn't hurt there mouth as bad. Look at a seers teeth @4.5-5.5 years of age. I bet it hurts to bite down on something that hard!

What do y'all think ?

I've never noticed this but I agree 100% with your logic behind this assumption. Makes me want to make both available to the deer now.

Making the report made me think back. I remember when I was hunting a area with extreme numbers of deer. I had a food plot with a lot of different feed. I did it to do my own research! Peanut butter
Ricebran
Corn
Soybean
Deer cocaine
All kind of blocks
Apples
Whiteoak acorns
^^^ where out at all times,, spent a fortune on deer food. Ricebran out did everything by far. They also liked the apples , I'd quarter them up and stick them on high limbs so I could watch them reach for them.
Durring all my research with all the bait I did factor that the older deer wouldn't touch the corn. Young deer loved the corn

Sounds crazy but I got a lot of activity a few years ago off of a few boxes of honey nut Cheerios.

I want to try apples soon. I just picked up some of that deer cocaine. I never heard one bad thing about it. Figure I would give it a shot. I bought the powder and the liquid.

I just put out two homemade mineral licks. If I get some decent pics, I will post the recipe. First time I try it in this area.

Any ideas on how to collect acorns? I thought about buying one of those yard sweepers and run the yard a few times. But I'm not sure if it would work.

I used to give some kids some rubber gloves and rake. I'd pay them 5$ a bucket for whiteoak acorns. Lol

Something else I did when I hunted missisipi ! I used to take a sprayer and load it with apple juice. I'd spray the folate and browse. It worked

I have gone to large business parking lots on weekend with broom and dust pan. Collect 5 gallon bucket in few minutes off pavement. I have a few select sites near home to do this. They are planted with lots of mature oaks for shade. Also found wild persimmon trees and do same esp for seeds to plant.

I guess I'll go the 5 gallon bucket route. If I get good results, I may look for a lawn sweeper. I can't really think of any parking lots around with oak trees. But I could be forgetting something. UL's campus has a lot of oak trees. But I'm sure the campus police have nothing better to do than to come question me.

Any particular type of apple juice? Brand, not from concentrate ETc

Edit: I may try a shop vac in my front yard and see how that dose.

I'd just get the cheapest I could find. Just regular apple juice you would drink.
