Tent camping

Reply
I have been searching like crazy to find a place to go tent camping with my son within 3 hours or so from New Orleans. Problem is, I don't want one of these campgrounds where everyone is right on top of one another. I want a secluded spot in the woods where I don't have to see another campers fire at night or hear them at all. I need zero amenities except for a dirt road to drive in on and a legal spot. Any and all suggestions please!

Seeing your avitar name, I would suggest a trip with Bogue Chitto tubing and canoe company. That river will let you get far away. Another choice would be Flynt Creek in Wiggin's MS. Nice MS state park and the tent area has some cool spots that are secluded. Great place to ride a Mountain bike. When the weather is cold, the tent area's are usually less crowded in most parks. In Flynt Creek you can drive. Bogue Chitto state park near Bougalousa has a cool tent area too.

Thanks for the input. I do plan on taking a canoe camping trip in the future it sounds like a lot of fun. For now I'm just looking to drive in with my son. I've checked those two out before and for me they are just way to much water park and activity based and way to little seclusion and nature based if you know what I mean.

Bogue chitto state park is 15 min from my house. It's actually in Franklinton. Not bogalusa. They have hiking trails, fishing, canoeing, and other activities. If you have a boat. You can also camp on the sand bars along the pearl river outside bogalusa or the bogue chitto from Franklinton to Sun, La for 0$. But I Would NOT leave my vehicle unattended at a public boat launch overnight. Hope this helps

Have you looked at the Desoto National Forest. They have a canoeing creek and a 35 mile hiking trail. There are many dirt roads you can drive down also and fins somewhere secluded. They also have a hand full of 'improved' campsites. By these I mean just a central bathroom and water faucet. I take my scout group to the area sometimes.

It's been awhile since I've been there, but the national forest by Foresthill was a secluded area for camping. You can't cut trees, but you can burn what's on the ground and it's about 3 hours away. Like I said it's been a while. We use to dirt bike ride there.

I would recommend K.N.F. or Indian Creek. Indian
Creek has a primitive area that you can get away from people with lake view but it does have facilities that you can drive or ride a bike 2.

Oops. my bad it is Franklin not Bogulousa! Cool park you got near your house man! I caught a bunch of little bass in those sand pits right off the river in the afternoons. We stayed in one of the new cabins. They're nice as my house. I always canoed at Bogue Chitto tubing and Canoing, but it's a lot nicer to be within park boundaries. No crazies out there. You could always go camp by the sheet pile south of Ramah.
