Wow, what a day! My first shot of the day I killed a speck. Later I killed another speck and 2 black malders. First one I shot on the water than the second one got off the water and I popped him. Had to shoot the second one again after it hit the water because the dumb thing wouldn't die. My friend killed a speck and crippled another one but couldn,t find it. I crippled my second speck and it flew into the next field but then we chased it down and I shot it again. It was my dad and me,my friend and his dad, and my friend's friend and his dad.If my friend and I would have had 12 ga. then we could have had are 6 specks by 8:00. There was probaly over 600 geese by our blind. Can't wait till i get to go again!

It may be the way I read it, but it sure sounds like he had a great time without a guide to me. I've seen several posts that you've written with a negative connotation to them, but this is quite horrible. There was absolutely no reason, in my opinion, for you to shadow this kid's excitement and experiences on his hunt by saying that he might want to try a little harder in school and work on his spelling(basically degrading an enthusiastic member of this site). I hope he doesn't come to the site tomorrow, excited to see how everyone congratulates him, only to see your post. I'm quite appalled that you would post such a thing especially since your business is dealing with people. Do not worry though, I am sure he will read your post with correct grammar and sentence structure and think of you as quite the "knowledgeable professional". And if you say you didn't mean to offend him, read your post back to yourself.
This type of discouragement is exactly what makes kids not want to do well in school.

im with devonb
devonb is right Capt. John, who cares about the best guides money can buy?; also who anaylizes the spelling and/or wording of every members post? To quote you "but please, please please" where is that second comma?, why did you start a sentence with "but"?, so maybe you should have done better in English, or maybe learned that you don't need guides to be a sportsman. So in conclusion, don't be an A$$hole to kids who love to hunt.

Seems to me, you two are aching to pick a fight. I DID congratulate the youngster on his hunt. Also, I responded that I was proud that he is hunting and not at home playing those 'R'rated video games.
In my opinion, there is NOTHING better(as can be seen in many, many of my posts) than kids having fun outdoors and I have done and will continue to do MY part in getting more and more of them out of the house and onto the waters and the woods!
In that same respect, I will never faulter on commenting on how much an education is to these youngsters.

Gripe all you want. Read into my posts whatever you want. I will congratulate ALL youngsters that post here on their accomplishments in the woods or on the waters. I will ALSO add how important a GOOD education is.

For any more explanation of what a GOOD education is, you may email me directly at CaptJLT@CaptJohnL.com

To the younsters that made the above post----keep up the great posts of your early exploits with your most caring parents that spend time with you.---------JLT

Sure sounds negative to me.
Might just be the way I read it, but I have to agree with the other guys. A simple "great job" would have been enough with out the other negative comments.
Like moma use to always say "if you can't say something nice, don't say nutting at all".

Spelling
First of all glad you had a great hunt TroutSmackers and enjoyed your post. Keep hunting and fishing and donít be afraid to post again even if you do misspell a word or two. Most people donít care.
I didnít know we were being graded in spelling and grammar when we post comments here, but guess we are by some. When I was in school I strived to be average, I didnít want to stand out at the top or bottom of the class. Not saying that he should do the same, just saying that you donít have to be the sharpest pencil in the box to succeed in this world. I operate a multimillion dollar power plant and have a lot of people above me that I correspond with daily and I donít get that much grief when I misspell a word or miss a comma. This place is for hunting and fishing enthusiast (not sure on spelling on that one) lol, but sure Capt. John will let me know if I am right or not.

Youth Hunts
Good Job TroutSmakers. I took my 12 year old son this morning and he was able to kill a few birds. More importantly learn how to be a hunter. I've always taken my son hunting with me and never really spent much time coaching him on his shooting. Well, it is much easier to coach without a gun in my hand. I think he learned more this morning than he did in all of the years I've taken him. Not only that, but he knows HE killed the birds, not someone else's shot.

In a nutshell, I think the youth hunts are a great idea.

PS, Capt. John L, you should be ashamed of yourself. I noticed the spelling errors too, but would have never commented on it. You can fire away at any spelling or grammar mistakes that I have made. It won't bother me none, I have TWO college degrees, both in the medical field so I'll match my smarts against anyone. And I can't afford to go on too many GUIDED hunts.

It is great to hear you had a great time. Getting out there and doing it yourself is to be commended. Guides are quite over-rated! . Education is important, but in life there are many kinds of education. It is great to see such enthusiam from the youth hunters. Congratulations!

Thanks for the report!! I've been wondering how the youth hunt went. Your post brought back memories of hunting with my dad and how it all ends in about one season. So, just soak it up all you can!!
As far as your education, Capt. L is right it is important, but not so you can get guides!! Just follow what you know is right and you will never go wrong. Then you can get a nice hunting and fishing rig and take your kids when you have them. I have a GED and I do just fine in life in life. My brother is an Engineer and we both make the same money. So, just TRY to do good at whatever you are doing and it will all work out! Plus you just learned rule number one, many people build themselves up by knocking you down and making you feel like less of a person than they are. Just don't let it get under your skin, let those negative comments roll off you like water off a ducks back!!
Have a great season man, sounds like you're off to a good start!!

"English is an easy language"
So I guess you mean if you can't even learn English than you aren't that bright???

"Looks to me you might want to try a little harder in school"
Sounds like a knock to me!!

I have to agree with the rest, that was a low blow! You didn't just say how important an education was like you are saying in your defence. You pointed out how he should try harder at spelling, and took a cheap shot at how "English is an easy language". If you were educated you would know that English is one of the harder languages.
Don't be like John Kerry and try to squirm out of your comment and say you are just saying that staying in school is important. No one would disagree with you.
Plus why do you get your feathers all ruffled when the others said you were wrong to post your comments? They were just correcting you like you corrected Trout!!
Take it like you give it Capt. you should have done better in your comment about education!

To all of you guys that supported Trout Smacker, thank you for encouraging a youth that absolutely loves the outdoors. I'm the assistant principal at the school that he attends and Trout Smacker was about to burst Monday morning when he saw me and wanted to tell me about his youth hunt. His post, while having some grammatical and spelling errors, reads just like the verbal report he gave me. He's a 12 year old that was excited to let you all know how well he did in the field. I doubt very much that he even gave one second's thought to editing his report after just leaving the field. He wanted you all to know how he did and that was all that mattered.

i judged the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association Youth Journalism Contest last spring and I can tell you, the writing abilities of our kids that hunt and fish cover the entire spectrum. The cool thing is the pulse of those stories and the one like TS posted here. If you can get through the normal kid errors, there's a lot of excitement in our young outdoorsmen. Let's honor that and be careful how we respond to them, especially when they come to this site and want to share that all with you.

Good job TS. Keep posting!

Marty, I, too, salute you on not only your post, but for the job you do at the school. As you know, we here in Louisiana have been on the bottom of the list in education for many years, but by the way these kids get so very excited over their outings in the woods or on the water, it's a great start to getting them even more excited about their school work. It must be very very tough to oversee a whole school, especially with the "don't fail" programs now in place in all the public schools, coupled with the liabilities of spankings and such as we all our age grew up with. Good Job!

speaking of grammar lessons Capt. John L, you need a comma after the word to in your first post. "Then, with a good education, you can get a really good job and have the means to go hunting all you want to with the best guides money can hire!"

Wow, Capt. John L, anyone who reads your post can see that you were trying to be a righteous and arrogant ass. Leave his schooling and education to his parents. The fact that this young man had enough courage to post his hunt is what keeps this site going long after your arrogant self is gone. STICK TO WHAT YOUR GOOD AT GUIDING AND LEAVE THE IMPORTANT STUFF TO HIS PARENTS. I may not always write correctly on MY POST BUT I GET THE POINT ACROSS. AND TRUST ME I AM EDUCATED. I am not on here to post a formal essays etc I am here to post about hunting or fishing. THIS IS NOT AN ENGLISH 101 WEBSITE. Heh John L, I bet most on this site that do not always post thing grammatically correct have as much or more of an education as your proud self. You just seem to always post comments that are negative then at the end you put your congrats. I can tell you one thing I hunt and fish as much as anyone that is not a guide and when I see anyone especially a youngster post a report as excited as this young man it geeks me up. Try to put your BIG EGO in your back pocket and just say nice hunt. I usually do not post responding to crap but you have crossed the line too many times. AND DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME CORRECTING MY POST I DO NOT CARE. To call yourself a professional is a joke. Good luck the rest of the season. TROUTSMACKERS GREAT HUNT AND KEEP IT UP.

Help educate our kids
John, if you want to help educate our kids run for the school board and effect change the right way. Go door to door and talk to the parents, that's where development begins, in the home. I dont normally respond to the garbage that can sometime be found on this site but I had to chime in on this, somehow I missed this in November. However, I did not miss your pistol kill and I left that alone but noticed your attitude. I am an older fellow with an excellent judge of character or charactor, which is it John? You can say I am like a weekend Dr. Phil without the degree or Robin. Between the pistol kill and this education snafoo (is snafoo a word John?) I find your arrogance and self rightousness offensive. Leave the kids along with you negative input. Hope you got good repeat business.

And this will be the last, 'cause I now know where you 'stays at'.
Be it known that TroutSmackers as well as his Dad will be fishing with ME on May 20th. You want to let yo Momma know, so she can bring you down here to watch?

By the way: Thanks for keeping my name in front of the public. The more you try to insult me, the more bookings I get! May be able to save a few dollars on advertising this year with all your help, Stinkbug.

ps. Don't ask for commissions either. I don't really like the idea of taking away from your paper route and collecting cans from the roadside.
