Sherburne duck question: straight talk

Reply

Just asking flat out: is Sherburne too full/overrun to duck hunt?
Is it like many of the LA WMAs where you're asking to get your outboard ripped off by locals or chased off by people who've been hunting there for decades?

I've done the public land jig, and the last thing I want to do is step on someone's toes. This is why I ask if Sherburne is one of those places where, unless you've hunted it forever, you're personanongrata?

I can do my own scouting and am not lookng for spots or anything, just want to know the skinny.

Thanks.

It's not bad like that. It's not all that good for ducks though. I think the best WMA for ducks in PAC.

I have a camp out there and we do okay. It's not one of the best places in the state to hunt but there are ducks there. Only problem out there is it is limited on area to hunt. What I mean is, there is only so many holes to hunt and the birds get very educated out there. This year there was a ridiculous amount of people, especially on weekends. You can forget finding a hole far away from anyone, unless you feel like getting there at midnight or before. The weekdays are not as bad and that the only time I will try and hunt it now. It seemed to be over run with youunger crowds that I guess people are calling the 'Duck Dynasty Generation' of hunters. Just to let you know an outboard is out of the question and a go devil or surface drive is a must. And no you shouldnt have problem with locals ripping your motor off or slashing tires, atleast i have not heard of that happening yet.

Hunted out there about twice a week this season, would not go on the weekends it's packed. People do get out there at 2 am to get the good holes first I agree there's limited space but you can paddle to most of the spots in a kayak that's what I did, the birds get very educated in late season I think you'd be better off with no decoys and no calls in the late season I had them flare off as soon as they would see my small spread in late season
